Today we take a break from killing zombies and move onto organizing our shopping lives with easyShop from Kyle Shiflett. This app costs $3 on the App Catalog and has a singular goal in mind… get rid of the paper shopping lists you have been carrying around since you were born. In that one single goal I believe it does very well.
The first thing you will notice when opening the app for the first time is you have some work ahead of you. Obviously the app doesn’t know where you shop so it is up to you to tell it…. which means you have a lot of typing to do. This can’t be helped really, but it is a bit daunting at first.
First you need to add in all of the stores you shop at (in my wife’s case that would be simply Target). If you are intimately familiar with a store, then you can even add in aisles. Once you have stores, it is time to create some items. You have a couple of options here, such as whether the purchase is needed at the moment and whether or not it is a one time purchase. That second checkbox is really the reason to buy this app. This one little check means that when you are creating your second shopping list, you don’t have to reenter everything again. Very nice.
If you have a lot of items you can even search through the list to make sure you did indeed add the bananas. Once you have your list complete, you can go shopping. The default is to show all the items you have on your list, but you can also filter by which store you are going to. This is helpful when you can’t run all the errands for today because your three year old just whacked his sister with his Buzz Lightyear toy (true story).
Pros
- Makes shopping list management much easier because you don’t have to reenter items
- Handy search and store filter features
Cons
- A bit daunting at first…stick with it though and it will probably save you some time.
Bottom Line
Overall I think Kyle has done a great job with this app. I think it does accomplish its goal of replacing the paper list.
I hope it sells well because I could definitely see some great features for version 2…things like being able to send a list of items to another person (my wife would LOVE that one). Also being able to lesson the daunting into to the app with common stores and the like (maybe some autocompletes).
So if you are the shopper in your family, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick this up for your Pre or Pixi.
