When I was a kid I loved a good game of memory…is that weird? Probably says something about me, but I do distinctly remember at a very young age that the little cardboard cards with candy and toys on them were well worn from use. Instead of those little cards the kids these days are usin’ their new fangled contraptions to play.
Match ‘Em, Dynaptic is essentially memory of old. I reviewed two flavors of the game…default and Christmas…each is available on the Catalog for $.99.
The default is, by far, the better of the two versions. It utilizes space images (and even has a little reference guide to tell you what the various planets and space objects are…nice touch), and has a nice look and feel. Tap a “card” and it flips over. Miss your match and it goes back face down. Get it right and it will stay there…repeat till you run out of cards. Doesn’t get much simpler than this folks.
The biggest drawback of the default version is the background music. It really sounds like an old Barry White album cut than music for a spacey game of memory. This is really minor because, thankfully, it is easy to turn off. Just be quick about it.
The Christmas version is the exact same game with pictures of Santa and elves. This is a bit of a disappointment to me because Dynaptic is charging you the same price for what is essentially a skin. From a consumer perspective, I would have preferred the ability to change skins and maybe even download new ones. I might even be willing to pay a bit more ($1.49?) rather than have this approach. The other part about the Christmas version is that the graphics seem much lower in quality than the default’s space pics.
- It is a nice implementation of memory
- Cheap
- The default version has some nice little touches (like the explanations of the space images)
- The background music is really bad for both versions…
- The Christmas version doesn’t have the same quality and offers nothing to those who have the default.
Do you like memory? Yes, then get the default version (bah humbug on the Christmas version). It is a nice, if simple, version of the classic game (in space!!).
If you don’t, then there is nothing here that will change your mind.

[...] to be fair, I didn’t mention this in my reviews of Checkers or Match ‘Em, so the question is why am I picking on poor Swap & Drop? I think it boils down to the fact [...]
