The Palm Plus phones are out, why isn’t Verizon pushing them?

By: , 1/28/2010 12:45 pm | 11 comments

When the Droid came out a few months back there was a massive push by Verizon. TV, print, and a major push if you wandered by the store. “Droid Does!!” We heard that everywhere.

So when the Palm Plus phones came exclusively to Verizon, we of the Palm fan club were ready for something similar. Well, it has been several days now and we got…nothin’.

Go to the Verizon Wireless website and there isn’t a Pre or Pixi to be found (the Droid is still there…so is the Samsung Intensity, LG enV, and Motorola Entice). Oh, if you know what you are looking for you can find the Plus phones and buy them…but that is hardly the point of marketing.

Right now they even have a special going to buy a Pre or Pixi Plus and get a Pixi Plus for free, but you would only know that if you hunt down the phones and look.

According to sources in the twitterverse even if you go to the stores, the employees don’t know anything about the Palms and will try to sell you a Droid Eris. *sigh* Now I am sure that there is a Verizon store out there somewhere who has very Palm knowledgeable employees, but they seem to be pretty rare, or they are under orders to push the Android phones.

So what gives? Why is there no advertising blast? If there is one, why wouldn’t they have launched it when the phones went live?

More importantly…why would Palm give an exclusive deal and not insist that they put some muscle into advertising the thing? I know that Palm needs their phones on as many networks as possible, but if the network isn’t trying to sell the device, then what is the point? At least with tiny ole Sprint you got some advertising face time…

The goal here is to get as many Pres and Pixis into as many hands as possible.

Come on Verizon…you have one of the best phones on the market. Act like it!

flattr this!

I echo your sentiments completely. That said, there are whispers that there are reasons underneath the surface for this. Perhaps Palm and Verizon are deliberately timing supply to meet demand once advertising kicks into full swing… there were rumors that only a few Pre and Pixi Plusses were shipped to Verizon in the beginning. Perhaps these rumors were true?

    What I WON’T forgive is:
    1) Uneducated employees who push inferior devices INSTEAD of the Pre (the Droid Eris thing happened to me as well)

    2) Factual inaccuracies on the part of Verizon. On their website initially listed the Pre Plus as having HALF the internal memory and RAM that it it really does.

Hopefully things will look up. Verizon has publicly stated on Twitter that a strong ad campaign for the Palm Pre and Pixi Plus is about to launch. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Google didn’t pay as much, I assume. Same thing happened with the Storm2 when that came out: no ads whatsoever.

I bought one tuesday jan 29th and the first sales person said she didn’t know how to work the pre-plus she was a blackberry girl. The palm expert took 30 mins to figure out hers was in airplane mode. I had one for 15 mins and knew more about them than any body @ verizon selling them.

Yup, Verizon reps only pushing Andriod and the Droid. I was in there today and they actually don’t even recommend it. What a joke. Verizon is hurting sales…
