Introducing appRoundup
So what is appRoundup? At it’s very basic it is an app catalog site. It allows you to explore and find all of the apps that Palm offers for its Pre and Pixi phones. But that is just the beginning…
I had the idea for this phase a long time ago (in webOS terms at least), but getting the information about the various apps proved troublesome. When Palm released their catalog feeds during CES, I suddenly had all the information I needed to I move into high gear.
Ever since starting webOSroundup, I have always worked to push beyond the norm. When I decided to focus on reviews I didn’t want it to be your everyday review site. I wanted to go a step further, so I have videos as well as text on most of the reviews on the site. The new phase is no different. There are other app catalog sites out there, but I wanted to go outside the norm…put in a little sizzle. For instance:
- Homebrew. It is no surprise that I am a huge fan of Preware. The guys and gals behind the homebrew scene, in my opinion, deserve all the recognition they can get. So to aid them, I have included virtually every homebrew app and theme that can be installed through Preware. These apps and themes are fully integrated into the new site so you do not have to do special searching or anything to find them.
- Buzz. WebOS is gaining steam and is being talked about all over the blogosphere and twitterverse. However, if you are not completely plugged in, you might be missing out on the conversation. To help with this, I have created programs that read through dozens of blogs and comb through twitter to find which apps are hot so that you can quickly learn what people are saying about them.
As you would expect, each app on the site has all the information we can find about them displayed in an easy to read manner. You can search for apps by their name or their developer, and when you find one that you would like to purchase, you can quickly send the app to your phone for download and purchase (this, unfortunately, doesn’t work for homebrew).
I am very excited about this new phase of webOSroundup, and I hope you will find it to be an invaluable tool when looking for new apps. As I said earlier, though, this is just the beginning. I will be adding features regularly so that, in time, it will become the ultimate webOS resource. Should be fun…
So, check it out, tell your friends (twitter is your friend!), and let me know what you think.
