CALLING ALL DEVS! Submit PDK-ready Apps!

For those who don’t know, Palm has been hard at work with something called their “Plug-in Development Kit” (PDK), which essentially allows developers to port apps from other platforms into webOS.  Up to now, we have reaped the benefits of only a limited number big-name development firms like Gameloft and Glu Mobile, which explains the awesome 3D games we have enjoyed.  But games are only part of the story:  PDK apps as a whole provide a richer, more powerful interface than web-based apps written in web languages (HTML, CSS, Javascript). For example, some speculate that this may be what DataViz Inc. is waiting for to release Docs To Go…  but we’re not so sure.

Well, just yesterday Ben Combee of Palm Developer Relations wrote a post in the developer forums calling for PDK-ready apps to be submitted to the App Catalog, earlier than had been originally anticipated.  Devs, read the post for more details.

What does this all mean for end-users like you and me?  Hopefully, more apps…  more powerful apps.  Regardless, we see it as a good sign that Palm is moving ahead of schedule.
