WebOS 1.4.1.1 Update for Verizon Imminent? (UPDATE: 4/28!)

By: , 4/27/2010 4:32 pm | 11 comments

Folks on Verizon, we salute you.  Fact is, your carrier (Verizon) is quite persnickety about OS updates for their devices. While we can’t blame them for being careful, there’s something to be said for doing it as fast as possible, too.  We on Sprint and even Europe have had the latest update for weeks.

That said, your wait may soon be over.  On their website, Verizon has announced that the 1.4.1.1 update is coming soon, and includes a PDF file detailing all of the upcoming bug fixes.  Unsure of how long this has been posted, we called our local Verizon rep and asked them about it. Feel free to take this at face value, but they confirmed to us that they’ve gotten word from on high that a webOS update is coming very soon.

… So if you’re dealing with any bugs that are causing you to consider exchanging your device, hang in there… your salvation may be on its way.

UPDATE! An anonymous tipster has informed Precentral.net that 4/28 is the magic date. In typical Verizon fashion it will be rolled out nice ‘n’ slowly, but you should be able to do it manually by furiously tapping the “Update” icon in your launcher.

– Thanks Randy H for the tip!

flattr this!

Aaaand – you're not going to give credit to broncot in the precentral forums? Did you dig this link up on your own or did the PC article linking to their forum give you the heads up? Citing your source is always a good thing to do for a blog like this. It gives the little people some glamor and glory :)

I sent it in. I found it on verizons website. I just got a new replacement because of this issue. I have an email from David asking if I wanted to be named. Here is a copy:

Hi there guys, Love the site. Here is an update that could use some press. A lot of people have been sending there phones back on the verizon networks because of two main issues.

    1 loss of pictures
    2 double type keyboards

    well here is the fix

    Keep rocking.

I am happy that verizon and Palm are addressing the issue. I am glad that other people will know about it instead of sending there phone back.

We were tipped about this via email and unaware that a) Precentral had posted it and b) broncot had posted this in their forums. We were in the process of giving props to our email source.

Only because you brought it up, feel free to check out our tweet of this story. It came out just before Precentral's did. We are NOT in the business of ripping off other peoples' material and certainly do our best to give credit where it's due, so don't go demonizing us! :) We cover the same material, so there's bound to be some overlap.

Phenoum…dude…chill, this is the second time you have accused us of this. We don't steal stuff from Precentral or their forums. If we get news from them, then we will credit them.

They are a great site, but we have other sources just like they do. In this case it was Randy.

    Thanks again Randy!

nah – i guess my comment came across a bit rash. I just tend to look for source links in most blogs I read and didnt see a mention or reference here – prompting my question. Keep up the good work :)
