Love your Palm/webOS device? So do we….and a lot of other people.

One of them is our friend Pamela Hazelton (of webOS Enthusiast fame) who has written up a great list of the 10 things you can do to help webOS grow. We highly recommend you guys check ‘em out.

Most of her little tips are great, but I do have to take exception with one of them.

Don’t bash the competition. Instead of spending time being so negative over Android and the iPhone, just be more positive about webOS. Good people LOVE positivity, and are more apt to pay attention to what you have to say.

I am all about positivity…but I think there is something to be said that webOS is the best mobile OS on the planet. As you might guess I engage in these conversations all the time with my friends and I typically back it up by pointing out how it compares to the other OSs out there (typically Android). Now I am always polite (well…most of the time), but it is important to give real examples as to why ours is the best.

If you need some ammo…we have a few rounds:

Don’t forget to check out the rest of Pamela’s list!

I totally concur that webOS is the best. My point was that spending too much time on the negativity tends to suck some life out of the positive aspects. I agree that it's good to tell people why webOS is better, and even point out what others are doing wrong. But “bashing” is akin to a bullying tactic, and, in my experience, can be a turn off to many people. :)

Agreed. It is always important to be polite. Bashing is what Apple cult members do…did I just say that out loud?

I was once guilty of pointing out the pitfalls of other platforms in trying to convince others but have learned that doing so (no matter how nicely) is a quick ticket to having your opinion dismissed as “fanboyism.” Folks you talk to will just start nodding away or just laugh and move on. So now, the only time I point out the negatives of other platforms now is when people directly ASK me “why didn't you get an iPhone or Google phone?”

An important caveat: if I tell them why I didn't like a particular platform based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (such as my ownership of the iPhone for a year and a half or HTC Hero for 3 weeks), that generally carries more weight.

Where are the ten things? I'm of the inclination that a title of a post should infer the content of said post… Rename maybe?

(yes i know you link to the list…)

The 10 things are Pamela's list…we are simply a conduit here. She did a great job…we are pointing you to them. I guess we could have simply copied and pasted the list like others do sometimes, but why rob Pamela of the traffic for a post she worked hard for?

And I appreciate that, David. Referring traffic is a great community builder. :)
