Palm Pre Challenge: Who wants a Touchstone Charger?

When the Palm Pre was announced a little more than a year ago, I was fascinated by the idea of a new charging device called the Touchstone Dock. Through the use of a specially designed back cover and some cool technology, I could put my Palm Pre on the dock and let it charge without actually plugging the device into the wall. If you ask me, that is what we might call ‘very cool’.
But, even as cool as I think it is, it wasn’t until recently that I even bought one. What with the price of it being so high ($70 at some places!) I couldn’t justify the pricetag with the luxury and novelty of it alone. So I sat back and waited, and boy did it pay off.
Last week RadioShack did an amazing thing, they put their inventory of Palm accessories on a huge sale, and included the Touchstone charger with that sale. For $20 I could buy the unique cover and the dock in a single package and not feel bad afterwards. Only problem now was that I needed to find a store that still had them after the mad rush.
This was no simple feat, actually, and after calling nearly every store within a 2 hour drive to hear they were out of stock, I gave up hope and turned to Twitter to share about my defeat. Luckily, you guys were there for me (as the webOS community always is), and besides finding a lot of tips on what other stores to check, someone actually offered to buy me one.
Pamela Hazelton stepped in to be my hero and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. A few hours later I was typing a FedEx tracking code into my Package Tracker and jumping around excitedly as my new toy made it to my house.
The story doesn’t end there, though. This is actually where it starts getting good.
As many of you know, I went home from Tipton, Indiana for Mother’s Day in Ohio. While I was there I decided, just out of curiosity, to check the local RadioShack to see if they had the charger in stock. To my surprise, they did, and luckily for you (yes, you, not me) I was in an impulsive mood and paid for it on the spot.
That’s when I had a crazy idea. I still have this second Touchstone Pack on the way from Florida (thanks to Pamela) that I won’t actually be using. What if I gave it away to my Twitter followers instead of hogging it all for myself? I only need one, after all.
