Here is a little article from jkOnTheRun (a member of the gigaOM network). In it they hint at the big opportunities that are coming to webOS in the near future.

HP’s merger will be complete soon, and with it comes loads of opportunities not only for the end user, but also for developers as well.

Here are their words:

HP’s new venture with webOS crosses two of the hottest segments in mobile devices — smartphones and tablets. The company has indicated it will be leveraging webOS in both of those categories, so the stage is set for an interesting ride. Developers of webOS apps would be wise to get talking to HP as soon as the merger is finalized later this year.

Devs… this merger is huge news for you. The audience that will be coming is going to be massive. Phones and tablets… they are the NOW and the future, and webOS is one of the few platforms that is positioned to take advantage of both (the only other OS is, of course, Apple).  In fact, a recent Appcelerator Mobile Developer survey touted HP’s multiple form factors as one of the most compelling reasons to develop for webOS.

What about Android? Nope… Google is pushing ChromeOS for the tablet space. Little known fact… the tablets that are running Android right now? They can’t use the Android Marketplace… Google won’t let them. So if you do get a tablet with that OS on it, you can’t touch a single app.  Developers can’t sell anything to that user base.

webOS, on the other hand, is poised to take both by storm. In JK’s words: “The time is ripe for webOS to assume the legacy that good technology can create.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

is good to hear some good news about webOS, with HP buying a music service, a teleconference company, a new quick launch OS (from Phoenix tech.), and I am pretty sure by know by now that we need beautiful hardware and a super marketing strategy, there is great future for WebOS. In my opinion due to the great influence that HP have with the business people and the failure of blackberry to make a modern platform (blackberry is greatly decreasing in popularity) HP should try to overtake that market. We just need some strong office translators (docs to go), encrypted mails and messaging, and a powerful PDF reader. HP should be able to make it happen..
