Developers Praise webOS for “Speed of Development”

By: , 7/14/2010 12:42 pm | 14 comments

We’ve long argued that because webOS is based on familiar web standards, it makes for a very quick and easy environment for developers to create webOS apps. But don’t take our word for it…  many developers with experience on multiple platforms have said the same thing. A recent example is Scott Magdalein, developer for YouVersion Live. This free Bible reader and church social media app is one of the most popular of its kind, with over three million subscribers, on all kinds of platforms (iPhone/iPad, Blackberry, Android, Mobile Web, and Java). Sadly, webOS devices are nowhere to be found on their product website, but when it comes to singing their praises for their favorite development platform, webOS wins hands down. According to Mr. Magdalein’s YouVersion blog entry:

Because of the speed of development for WebOS, Palm has turned into the proving grounds for great features for YouVersion. That means that our Palm app is likely to be a preview of what you’ll see very soon in all of our other apps.

Palm/HP have made strong pushes to stir developer interest in webOS on many fronts, from waiving app submission fees to pioneering useful tools like the Ares web-based development utility. Let’s hope that as the webOS base grows, so too will developer enthusiasm for webOS.

Not sure if it means that much coming from someone who hasn't even created anything for webOS. Did they get paid to make a remark or something? Their praise will be worth more in my book when they actually have ported or made something for webOS. On the other hand it just might be a little meaningful. Sorry guys. All i'm saying is eat the cake first before you tell others how good it is.

Umm… they DID write an app for webOS. It's linked in our story. What are you talking about?

if they did, then that’s good. I guess I haven’t searched the app catalog for this developer. I wrote my thoughts based off of reading this article only. I do hope they put out more apps, if that’s the case.
