HP’s Gaming Guru calls out gaming developers to create games for webOS
Rahul Sood.
Never heard of him? Don’t worry, until recently, most of us at webOSroundup hadn’t, either. However, he’s quickly become one of our favorite people. Why? Because he is a gamer and a webOS advocate… two of our favorite subjects!
Rahul is the founder of Voodoo PC and became the CTO of the gaming business at HP when his company was purchased in 2006. His recent blog article begins by talking about the failed effort of Microsoft to allow console and PC players to go against each other in FPSs and similar games. The effort failed, at least in part, due to the fact that console players consistently get owned by PC gamers (mouse and keyboard is much faster and accurate than a controller).
After he laments this failed effort he takes a turn to call out game developers to tell them to jump on the webOS bandwagon on the “ground floor”. His words are better than mine:
So I’m calling out to all game developers. It’s time you followed the money and looked to the future. Opportunity is in scale. Web OS will have tremendous scale and reach.
You might even think about developing titles exclusively for Web OS in the future, but for now perhaps you should look at taking some of your best titles – and don’t think port – think about taking full advantage of our hardware, cameras, sensors, etc. The possibilities are endless – and while it may take time for new devices to start showing up, you can rest assured that the wait will be worth it.
I guess what I’m saying is rather than trying to stand out in a store with millions of apps in front of you, it’s probably a good time to get in while the getting is good on the ground floor. Feel free to contact me personally for the right contact within Palm.
That is some pretty sweet rhetoric right there. What is also exciting is all the high end PDK games for webOS that are starting to leak out (still hoping for Angry Birds!!).
This is gonna be fun.
