Preware and Internalz adding exciting new features
As many of you may already know Preware (webOS-Internals) and Internalz (Jason Robitaille) will both be getting a feature that will come in handy. They are adding the ability to install a package via a URL or from the USB partition of your webOS device. The ability to do this was shot down over a year ago when Palm closed a security loop hole in an update. However Rod has said that this new feature in Preware addresses that issue as Preware will show the real URL or local file path before asking you to confirm installation.
Many of you may be asking how this feature can help you all? Well, for the average webOS user it may be of no benefit at all. However, if you beta test apps it is a huge help if the developer of the app sends you the ipk file. Now you no longer will have to run to your PC to install the ipk as you can now comfortably install the app from your phone via Preware and soon to be Internalz. This is a huge benefit to those of us who test apps as you can now update your apps while on the go so you can give the developer feedback on the said app in a couple of minutes versus waiting until you get to the nearest PC.
These new features can currently be had in Preware if you are running the test feeds. As far as Internalz goes you will have to wait until the July 25th to get this feature as that is when Jason Robitaille plans to release the new version. I’m pretty sure from my experience with Jason, that he may have many more exciting things up his sleeve for us all. So keep your eyes peeled to see what may be coming.
We will be updating all of our readers on the official update to Internalz on July 25th as well as Preware when it graduates from the test feeds. Despite the lack of news coming from Palm I am happy to say that our great homebrew community is keeping the us webOS users on the edge of our seats. A big thank you goes out to all of the homebrew developers hard at work keeping webOS an exciting experience.
