Picture this: you just got paid and you are dying to buy a couple new apps for your webOS device. You do not know exactly what app you want to buy but you know you want something good. So, you hit the “Hottest Apps” category in the Palm App Catalog only to find a ton of spamtastic book apps. You scroll down the list further and hit a wall of even more spamtastic sports apps. Finally, after what seems like an eternity of searching for a truly great app you find one that you want. After buying your new app and playing with it for a while you realize that you wanted to buy more apps. As soon as you think about buying more apps you quickly think back to how hard it was to discover this great app and you choose not to make the journey again until absolutely necessary.
Does the above scenario sound familiar? It should because this is the reality of the App Catalog. With no way to filter what you want to see this will never change. However, if you are really fed up with dealing with this scenario then you should be thanking WebOS Internals yet again because they have given us the option to blacklist whatever we want inside Preware.
As of yesterday Preware 1.2.5 was released in the test feeds. This newest version gives you the ability to blacklist anything in Preware. You can now filter what Preware pulls by maintainer, title, description, and package Id using the new blacklist feature in the preferences for Preware.
This new addition to Preware can be useful to more than just knocking spam out of the way. Some of us don’t use certain types of apps and we can now search for anything in Preware without seeing things we do not care to see. So, once again a big thank you goes out to all those hard working people from WebOS Internals. If you are feeling as grateful as we are for this awesome new feature please donate to the cause.
