Put Pen to PalmPad?

Earlier this week, we reported that HP has applied for a trademark on PALMPAD. Even though the name of the only rumored webOS-powered tablet is still up in the air, we are starting to get some more details leaked out about this device.
The latest news is that the upcoming HP/Palm webOS tablet will actually have a screen that recognizes a Wacom pen, as well as the normal touch input.
Our insider tells us that just like HP’s tm series notebook, the webOS tablet will have a screen that recognizes a wacom pen while functioning as a capacitive touchscreen. That means the webOS tablet — unlike the iPad — will be an actual tablet. You will be able to take handwritten notes on it and easily search your notes.
If this “insider” is right, this could really make the webOS tablet (whatever the name turns out to be) a great device for consumers and businesses alike. And if anyone knows how to get products into the enterprise, it’s HP. One major complaint about the iPad that has been discussed many times is the difficulty of using the on-screen keyboard. If HP is making the webOS tablet compatible with a pen input, then it may have the iPad beat in ability to quickly take notes.
As this is only a rumor at this point, we’ll have to wait until more concrete specifications come out for the PalmPad to find out for sure. HP has made it perfectly clear that they plan to put a lot of force behind webOS smartphones and tablets/slates, and we look forward to any more news on either of these devices.
