Freeview: Cosmic Nitro

Thanks to Palm’s PDK Hot Apps program, webOS users will be graced with a good number of pretty solid PDK apps. Some developers, hoping to get in on a whole ton of downloads, may offer some of their apps for free. One such developer, named Phil Hassey from Hassey Enterprises, Inc has done just that with the PDK game Cosmic Nitro. As with his other game Galcon, Hassey has taken a classic game and put it on both steroids and speed at the same time. In this case, Cosmic Nitro is a super buffed-up and intense version of the classic game “Missile Command.” You basically defend your space colony from an onslaught of asteroids, bomb-dropping flying saucers, comets, fireballs, and toxic barrels. The gameplay is incredibly simple: just tap your target to shoot. It sounds almost too simple, but don’t get cocky for too long, as things get hairy pretty quick. Luckily, when it seems all hope is lost, you can deploy a super “shield” with the swipe of a finger.

These devs are making it really hard on us to be choosy with our esteemed “Top Pick” award! Because this app is up there, folks. Go get it.

    I've been waiting for a Missile Command type game since like the first set of games hit the Pre. Not even PDK, the SDK games. I will pay for this app if this turns pay. I've loved Missile Command since I was a kid. I'm not really good at it, but it's just an enjoyable experience.
