Hackathon Prizes!! You didn’t think we forgot did you?

Ok, so we told you we had some cool prizes cookin’ right? Well, we finally got everything squared away and ready to go (nothin’ like the last minute eh?).

So we have been working on this just about all week and are really excited. I think you all will be too.

Ok, here’s the deal. Palm is easily the coolest company in the world. Why? Well, when I mentioned that we were doing a Hackathon they couldn’t wait to help out. Lisa Brewster (aka Adora) emailed me and said that Palm will provide a touchstone for every person who is designing or developing the app in the hackathon. How cool is that?

But wait there’s more!!!

Not only is everyone getting a TS, but they will be commemorative and one of a kind. See that picture up above there? That picture will be put directly on the touchstone (the big circle part) to celebrate the first ever webOS community hackathon! If you click on it, you can see a super huge version of it. Also, if you look really closely, you can see the new WOR logo on top of our building.

But really this is just the beginning. All of those who participate will be enshrined on the image you see here. The developers who help out will have their logos placed all throughout our little city there. Once we get them all setup we will be issuing a free 7 x 11 inch downloadable poster to everyone. Note, because of the size of the touchstone, we are pretty sure we won’t be able to put the various logos on there. We are gonna try, but that little circle is awfully small…

And if that is STILL not enough, we will be giving prizes like free t-shirts, $$ to buy some apps, and anything else we can think of all throughout the day to those who are hanging out in the hackathon chat room.

When and where.

So the hackathon will officially begin at 10am eastern and will be completed at 10pm eastern. Of course we might go a bit after that if we are still finishing up, but that is the schedule.

If you are super hardcore, you can join the coordinators of the event at 9am for a little pow-wow and setup meeting.

The event will be taking place right here on the site. We will have a fancy chat room setup for all the devs, designers, and groupies to hang out. So whenever you have some time to join in, just check the homepage and you will find everything you need.

Really looking forward to this! Hope to see everyone there tomorrow.

That's awesome about the TS's! Palm does indeed rule beyond words when it comes to stuff like this, no question about it.

Tell you what… since my wife already has a TS for her Pre, and because I have an extended battery and hence can't use one (I know it's hackable, but I haven't bothered), why don't we make this a little more fun for everyone outside the dev team?

Anyone that's read my books (and if you haven't, go buy them right now! :) At least the Palm book!) knows that I'm a big sci-fi freak. So, let's make a contest out of this…

Throughout the day tomorrow, I'll throw out a random sci-fi trivia question in the chat room… I'll TRY to do it every hour on the hour so you don't have to be hanging out all day long… to be fair though, if I forget at some point (or have to step out for a little while and skip an hour) I WON'T ask a question at any other times, just so nobody who wants a shot misses one by accident.

Then, whoever answers the most questions right the fastest by 10pm will get my TS! That way, the groupies get a shot at owning a collector's item too :)

But heed my warning: some of the questions are going to be pretty hardcore, and I *expect* everyone to be on the honor system: no Googling the answers! Since there's only one prize, the first person I see a correct answer from each time will win that question, so you have to be quick AND correct.

Sounds like a plan?

FYI, I'll turn Skype on, I'm fzammetti there as well… I'll also go online on the various IM services I use (fzammetti on AOL and Yahoo!, [email protected] on MSN). Shouldn't be too tough to get a hold of me one way or another.

Really damn cool. Palm is so badass. You never see this kind of support from any of the big names. I showed this post to a few guys at work who concur. I am really glad I picked up my Pixi rather than that Hero last spring. lol hero.
