Quickoffice Coming to webOS???

By: , 8/19/2010 2:46 pm | 18 comments

What is one thing that has prevented webOS and the Palm Pre from really taking off in the corporate world? The lack of solid document editing support. DocsToGo has teased us several times, only to totally stop working on anything related to webOS.

The lack of any solid Microsoft Office document editing software on webOS very well may change in the near future. If you take a look at Quickoffice’s CEO, Alan Masarek’s blog post from today, you will see some very intriguing language.

At Quickoffice, we’re extremely excited to see this development and the increased focus webOS is deservedly obtaining. We’ve already seen increased competition driving innovation in the market, with Android’s Froyo, BlackBerry OS 6, iOS and now the potential of webOS 2.0. We’ve always maintained a mission that we’ll provide robust mobile applications for our users, across all the major mobile platforms, and this scope includes webOS. I think users, and the industry in general, watching webOS will be pleasantly surprised if they continue to watch Quickoffice and our continued leadership in the mobile space.

And….

Tell us – are you excited about webOS developments? Is there any specific functionality you’d like to see in a Quickoffice suite for webOS?

Looks like Quickoffice is just as excited about webOS 2.0, as the rest of us are. Alan does not come out and directly say that they are ready to release Quickoffice suite for webOS, but it’s pretty clear that they are working on something. A true document editing suite for webOS is something that would please a ton of existing webOS users, and it would definitely help attract a few more potential users.

Like AboutWebOS.com says, be sure to hop over to the Quickoffice Blog and leave a comment about a Quickoffice Suite for webOS.

How much is too much for you to spend on this when it comes out? I'd pay at least $10 or $15

Considering I paid $30+ for multiple copies of 8 versions of DocToGo, I wouldn’t have any qualms about paying $30-40 for a fully functional office suite.

I'd pay $15. I'm glad quickoffice is coming to WebOS. It makes sense since Palm and HP are bringing a WebOS tablet.

I'd like to see multiple versions. A simplified editing version, that matches the straightforward-simple aesthetic of webOS might be around $5. A more advanced version with robust document editing or additional features is something I'd pay up to $20 for. Maybe more.

I wonder if they were waiting on the PDK to release something and also to see what was going to happen to Palm.

up to $20. These apps are more complicated and require regular updating for funcitonality and compatibility with the office products. I remember paying a lot for docs to go and then getting upgrade requests every few months. I would ask that upgrades be free for a period of time so we don't get scammed with the perpetual upgrade cycle.

QuickOffice would make bank $$$ as docs editing is big hole in palm/webos solution. I would have no problem throwing down $20.
