RUMOR: “Palm Pre 2″ to Hit Verizon October-ish??

Introducing our Magical Rumor Unicorn! Credit: Osiris

Rumors are always fun… especially when there’s not much news to go around. Now, as with all rumors, we say bear with us! Our source  is quoting an unnamed source, so you know how this goes…

Basically, the folks at Phone Arena are stirring up the rumor mill and have information from “a trusty source” (their words) about phone launches on Verizon. When talking about October launches, here is the interesting part:

“Our source indicates that we might see the Palm Pre 2 doing its thing at this time, however, every bit of info regarding this possible successor seems to be held pretty tightly right now.”

Hmm. This is interesting, considering the fact that up to now, we’ve heard about launches on Sprint. We’ll see where this leads.

flattr this!

vzw treating palm bad? Bullcrap. Vzw has done nothing but promote palm to smart business conscious customers. Hell, they even give away free mobile hotspot with the palm pre plus. It’s not vzw’s fault if android and blackberry products are outselling palm. If anyone is to blame for palm’s slow success it is palm. Adobe gave flash to both google and palm at the same time. Google released it on android 2.2 . Palm is still beta testing? Wtf.

If I was Palm I wouldn't release on Sprint, look how sprint treated them and how they treat them now.

Besides I am on VZW and this would be better for me – :P

I want a November release so I can ask for it for my b-day – :)

Verizon basically buried Palm. Compared to them, Sprint's treated Palm like royalty. Carrier relations is a pretty crazy business, so who knows what will happen. But, if one's measure is how the carrier "treated" Palm lately, then Verizon shouldn't get another Palm device–ever.

Thanks for the insight. I didn't know all of that.

Still want it to come to VZW though – lol

I'd love to see the next device(s) come out on all carriers at once.

          • http://twitter.com/tsaunders @tsaunders

That would be nice! I really just want to see a new Device – lol

Can Palm teach Big Red how to use this one? Can’t see this going well especially with all the iphne to verizon talk. Setting themselves up for disappointment…

FORGET exclusivity… just release on all 3 carriers at once… I dont care if it would cost you a billion dollars as a company, HP can afford it, and look at what exclusivity contracts get you… terrible ads from Sprint and Verizon, and hardly any promotion whatsoever. It was the single reason that Palm almost went under. If I was Ruby and Elevation Group I would have been LIVID.

My thoughts as well. And HP has allocated tons of money for marketing (and R&D) of Palm and webOS over the next year, perhaps as much as $800 million total if reports are correct. With that kind of money, HP could make a real splash across all kinds of carriers at once.

I'll be surprised if they don't have a Samsung Galaxy type launch across multiple carriers at once. Palm previously did exclusives because they didn't have the money or manpower to do a multi-carrier launch (heck, they even abandoned the Australia market where they were well established so they could focus solely on N. America and Europe).

Good to hear there's some rumors about a serious marketing campaign. Palm needs a solid/competitive handset to go with webOS and a large, sustained marketing campaign that they hopefully build on through 2011 as they bring new devices out on the platform (Tablet, printers, Dreamscreen, netbooks, cameras, toasters, etc, etc). They need to build a new brand around Palm and webOS and the powerful, easy-to-use goodness they bring to the table.

I agree that a Galaxy S launch would be a good strategy for Palm. But IDK why people are complaining about what carrier they launch on we all know they are going to end up on at least Big Red and Sprint. And no matter what network they launch on its good for us and for Palm because lets face it people are forgetting about Palm awfully fast. I see them launching on Big Red first, and shortly after on Sprint because it will be a 4G device, again similar to the Galaxy launch. I mean I am pulling for Sprint because that's what I have but personally I would love to see Palms on all four networks. Hell maybe once the new devices launch they can launch the old devices on Boost, Virgin, and Metro prepaid is supposed to be growing like crazy due to the economy, hell that could triple or quadruple our user base. I say more the merrier, I am not the biggest fan of big V or AT&T but anything to keep Palm around i gd n my book.

I would love a cross mobile launch, but manufaturers get such HUGE kickbacks for exclussives (look at Apple and ATT love hate relation) I don’t expect it will happen. HP if anyone should have the might, power, and money to back this notion, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Sprint needs to step up, 4g or not in my area, the Pre minus is showing age and in need of a refresh. WebOS 2.0 should be very exciting and I’m pumped! Sorli…
