Rumored Fall Sprint Lineup Includes C40

By: , 8/3/2010 2:04 pm | 91 comments

It seems as though every webOS fan out there is dying just to hear any news of new hardware in our future. Despite the fact that we are not big on rumors around here we had to pass this juicy bit of gossip along to our readers. Fone Frenzy has reported a rumored Sprint Q3/Q4 lineup and guess what is at the top of the list? None other than the HP/Palm C40!

We have to admit the details of the rumored C40 have us quite excited. This device supposedly comes with a 4″ LCD (possibly Super LCD) screen, an 8MP camera, and 720p video recording. The article also goes on to say that the gesture area is supposedly more useful and that there are some tweaks to make web browsing quicker. We are guessing that the latter of the two is webOS 2.0. The rumored release of the rumored C40 is late Q3/early Q4 of 2010!

Now take into mind this is just a rumor but it does coincide with the expected release time frame of webOS 2.0. Also, the above specs are all starting to become the benchmark of what a great smartphone needs to have to be at the top of the food chain.  One also has to wonder if this new piece of hardware will be a Sprint exclusive yet again? It may not be such a bad thing this time around given Sprint’s push behind 4G handsets.

So there you have it folks, the newest rumor of the almost fabled Palm C40 that we have all been talking about since January. What are your thoughts on what the new hardware should look and perform like? Better yet, do you think it should be a Sprint exclusive again or should HP/Palm give a different carrier an exclusive? Should the C40 even be an exclusive at all?

The specs aren't crucial and don't have to "beat" the android numbers. I see nontechies buying latest android phones and they have no idea what the processor or what kind of display tech it has. The feel of the device, and speed of the device/webos, and clarity of the screen are going to attract the eyeballs. A nice selection of apps will seal the deal. The original Pre didn't feel finished, the Pre + corected some of this but keyboard still needs work. Trained phone employees will be necessary too.

I've been waiting for this Palm C40 for almost a year now. I currently dont have a palm phone, but really wanted to get the updated pre when it arrived (C40) since November of last year, as that is when the rumors started to fly. Personally, I dont know how the current pre users are able to hold onto the hope of new hardware coming out, even if it does, which it probably will, the other handset makers have already gained market share. This will inevitably hurt the app catalog, even if HP is behind it now. I'll believe a new palm phone when I see some real picks, until then we should all wonder why it has taken them two years to release a new device and if that is a sign of things to come for future phones.

Pre has just had its first birthday two months ago. Pixi was launched at the end of last year. So they are not taking two years to launch new hardware. As a webOS user I do hold on because one KEY thing. Going to Android or Iphone is going an step back in terms of support and usability. Mainly in how I live with a phone. Not all are a list of features over a paper.

btw, i still think a 4 inches phone is too big. That list is just fanboyism.

cool. Should be an interesting interview. I would ask him hardware of course, but more speficly how much influence does hp have on the next phones. I.e. Are they 100 % palm design? Will they use the To Omap 4440 in their next phone? How aggressive will their hardware/software roadmap be. How right will the integration between phones, pads, and printers be. Does top HP management have any idea what they have because from the user standpoint I’m not so sure. I want a voodoo killer phone now too please, pretty please!!!

I would make the new Pre looks something like the Nintendo DS. Two screens with different functionalities, sleek, at least dual-core processors, mini projector and a lot of games!
