As the reported originator of the polished stone design of the Pre, Peter Skillman was one of the hardest felt losses from the fallout of Palm’s acquisition by tech industry giant Hewlett-Packard. As the VP of Design at Palm, Skillman had his fingerprints all over the look and feel of webOS based Palm hardware as well as past Palm handsets and PDAs. It has come to light today that Skillman has joined the MeeGo development team at Nokia as its user experience chief. Meego, Nokia’s smartphone OS of the future created in partnership with Intel, is chugging right along in its development and should be greatly aided by Skillman’s expertise. As integral as Skillman was to Palm’s industrial design for so many years, it is likely that for some time after Skillman’s departure, we will continue to see his influence in future Palm hardware and software.
