Rahul Sood gives some webOS love on Facebook
In our attempt to share the latest news about every little thing that Rahul Sood, CTO at HP’s gaming division, is doing (we’re still waiting on those pics from last week of that sandwich he made), we stumbled across something that was actually pretty cool.
Yesterday Rahul headed over to the Palm Facebook page to talk to the fans there, giving tips as to what is coming next in webOS 2.0, sharing the potential of the platform that is currently available, and generally just giving some excitement to the fans (and critics) of what HPalm is doing.
Obviously, he didn’t say anything official or even slightly hinting at features that are coming in the next releases of hardware and software, but he did make one specific statement very loud and clear; HP and Palm aren’t just going to continue listening and working with the awesome community that has built around them, they’re going to ‘double-down’ on it and give us more attention, even at high executive levels.
After the break you’ll be able to read his full statement from the Facebook page (which is only one comment in response to a few).
Oh yea, and the emphasis below is mine… Just something that excites me most.
Hi everyone,
John and Kevin, thanks for the kind words. As I understand, beautiful and intuitive design has always been a focus at Palm, and HP brings some major strengths in hardware manufacturing that should make things pretty tight. We’re pretty excited about what the future holds, too.
Jason and Joe, Palm is focused on creating a brand new, world class mobile experience across a range of form factors. As you’re probably aware, Palm recently announced a webOS 2.0 Developer Beta through through the Early Access Program so developers can get started on building apps that fully leverage the new platform. Stay tuned as products that utilize the new features of webOS 2.0 are brought to market – both by Palm and third-party developers. BTW, I am currently using webOS 2.0 on a daily basis, I’m very bullish about it —-
Jonathan, while I won’t comment on specific aspects of webOS 2.0 or unannounced hardware, the platform continues to gain functionality and I’d suggest keeping your eyes peeled.
Roland, Fritz, Guilaume…. I’m sorry you’ve been disappointed with webOS, but I’d like to offer a counterpoint. I had a partner meeting today with a major hardware vendor from the valley. One of the guys sitting across the table was talking about the benefits of Android and wondered why we didn’t release an Android phone… I was like “Are you kidding me??” – then I showed him my device, shared with him the cards, multitasking, and I offered a general use case scenario using the calender, email, phone, and a game for fun..by the end of a 5 minute demo he was sold. He now gets why HP PSG is investing massive resources into Palm and webOS.
The potential of webOS is absolutely sick (as in good sick)….
…and webOS is getting even better. As mentioned above, the platform is undergoing rapid development and continues to gain functionality with each major release. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what’s in store with webOS 2.0, what you see online is just a taster. You have to use it to fully appreciate it.It’s like wearing velvet…
