App of the Day: URLtoPDF
Lately, there has been a slew of webOS apps that use the desktop web browser to complement the browsing experience on the Palm Pre and Pixi. Relego and Spare Time tie into major services such as Read It Later and Instapaper respectively to save documents for later reading on your webOS device. Neato! can send URL’s to your phone via a browser plug-in for reading on the go. … But what about sending whole web pages from your webOS device to your desktop browser? This can be useful when you need the extra screen real estate to view a page. Developer Jason Cheeks fills this gap nicely with URLtoPDF for webOS ($0.99).
URLtoPDF allows you to take any URL from the phone’s web browser and convert it to PDF format. Simply visit a website in the browser, copy the URL to the clipboard, and paste the URL into the application. When you’re ready, simply tap “Convert to PDF” and your email application will open up with a
pre-formatted email containing the copied URL. Without making any changes to the email, press the Send button, and after 30 or 60 seconds you will receive an email from submit@web2pdfconvert containing an attachment of your web page in PDF format. You can either open it in your desktop browser, or use the standard PDF viewer on your webOS device and save it for later. The app does a great job of formatting the PDF close enough to the real thing, and in full color.
If you’re tired of squinting to read websites on your phone, or simply need to save your phone’s browser links for later reading on your desktop PC, URLtoPDF can be an indispensable tool for doing just that. Definitely worth a buck.
