Look Out New York! Here Comes “Oil!”
First and foremost, we would like to thank all of you that donated to Brandon VanBelle (a.k.a. “oil”) of WebOS Internals so that he could travel to New York to attend Palm Developer Day! In roughly a 48 hour time frame the webOS community rallied together and raised the $600 Brandon needed to cover his travel expenses. He wanted us to thank you all for your kind donations. We are sure that he will learn more than enough to wow us all with Preware gen2.
Many of you also know that Rod Whitby of WebOS Internals will be flown (courtesy of Palm) to speak at Developer Day. This was made possible by the webOS community rallying behind Rod on Twitter. Within 24hrs of this little “Twitter blitz” Rod had announced that he was registering for the event.
What many of you do not realize is that in addition to helping these two guys make it to Developer Day you have also facilitated their first face-to-face meeting. Rod and Brandon have worked together since Aug. 2009 when Brandon joined WebOS Internals to do the UI for Preware. Since then Brandon has worked with WebOS Internals and never communicated with Rod except for chatting online. Now isn’t it cool to know that we have all assisted in getting these two guys to meet each other outside of the digital world?
We have also received another cool story we thought we would share with everyone. One of our friends Suruat (a webOS developer) told us that a fellow community member donated $50 to him to help attend Developer Day. Thanks to Marcus A. Penn (@artitumis) Suruat can now pay for his registration and still catch a cab ride or two.
These are just a couple stories that have been born from one Palm event. We have to wonder how many other stories like this have happened recently. So, if any of you have an interesting tale that is related to the upcoming Palm Developer Day please feel free to share them with us.
