PDK webOS games ported over to Maemo

Something that’s been brewing for a while in the Maemo community, is the potential of porting over webOS PDK apps made for the Pre, to the Nokia N900. Now these two devices share pretty much exactly the same core internal specs; the processor, the graphics chip, the back end linux environment, which makes all of this possible. The way these seem to work is within an emulated environment and this means the games can be ported relatively untouched and with minimal effort. The only shortfall for the N900 is that it doesn’t support multitouch like the Pre, therefore any games that depend on this will be missing some features.

Well after a few months in development, games are finally starting to be ported over and one of the first ones to surface was EA’s SIMS3. Enjoy a little clip of it in action here (NOTE: it’s in German, so unless you are, you’ll probably want to mute the sound).

Of course, there may be some legal implications in all of this; you must own the original game etc. And to get all of this working, you’re probably going to need to know a little bit about what you’re doing. But just the sheer fact that it’s even possible, and that other great communities are looking towards the webOS platform to adopt our games, is both flattering and an example of how open and well developed our beloved OS is.
