App of the Day: Jigsaw Master
I’ll admit I’m a big fan of old school games like Uno, Checkers, and Asteroids. Jigsaw puzzles are another personal favorite of mine. I recently ran across this rather impressive jigsaw game for webOS titled Jigsaw Master by Hausteinapps. I was curious as to how they could pull off a jigsaw puzzle game on the Pre’s small screen, but they’ve done a nice job with it.
In Jigsaw Master you have over 90 beautifully colored puzzles to choose from, most of which could pass for some rather nice looking wallpaper. Pick a puzzle and you have a choice of how many pieces you’d like to start with, either 20 or 56. The pieces are then jumbled together in the center of the screen. You can then take your finger and start moving pieces around to begin to solve the puzzle. I’d recommend starting with the edge pieces first and then work the rest of the pieces towards the center. The pieces themselves snap together when they’re paired and can’t be separated. The loose pieces stay on top allowing you to keep moving them around.
The 56 piece puzzle is a bit overwhelming at first as the pieces are smaller and harder to see. As I mentioned earlier, starting with the outer pieces first makes things a bit easier. Although there are over 90 images to piece together, the app doesn’t seem to update itself with new images over time, which I hope is something the developer will change. Still, the puzzles can take some time to solve adding to the challenge. And best of all? The app will save your state when you close it so you can come back to finish the puzzle at a later time. That’s the beauty of webOS!
