HP Slate Experiencing “Extraordinary Demand”

By: , 11/15/2010 10:39 am | 7 comments

If you support the argument that tablet devices other than the iPad will be in high demand, then here’s some evidence to back you up. According to HP’s website, their Windows-based HP Slate 500 is on backorder less than a month after launch. Per Engadget’s intel, HP had only planned to make 5,000 of these things, but received orders for almost double that number.

Let’s be real here: these reports of “thousands” of orders are eclipsed by the millions of iPad sales. Still, we can’t help but think that if and when this super-duper “PalmPad” finally hits the scene, that folks will jump at the opportunity to snatch one up. We know we will!

I agree. I work @ Sprint and looking hard @ the Samsung Galaxy Tab for my wife for Christmas but I want the PalmPad. :(

Curious if PalmPad will be the same hardware as the slate and just webOS swapped for windows & or if additional things will be added/subtracted/tweaked. I did like the specs of the HP slate. Including common sense connectivity options like USB ports, Sd slots that Ipad lacks. I guess it’s good that Apple refused to add these commonsense options (form>function) so others including HP can differentiate their devices.

This shows that people are more attracted towards a small sized pc-spec tablet rather than overgrown smartphone-spec tablet…

      no it doesnt.

The HP Slate has sold 5000 units. The iPad has sold 5 million.

Smartphone slate wins by 10 factors.

I have never wanted something I don’t need so badly. I can’t wait for the release of the PalmPad. *pictures myself, PalmPad clutched close to my chest, running through a sun lit field of flowers* :oP lol
