Rumor: Sprint to Change up Premier Accounts?

By: , 1/19/2011 11:00 am | 21 comments

The majority of the webOS community felt a little tug on their purse strings yesterday when we discovered that Sprint would be tacking on an extra $10 per month to all smart phone data plans. We know it hurt but in all honesty a monthly increase is by no means a shocker. What we did not expect was the tip we received last night. This tip sent to us by a trust worthy source tells us that Sprint may be moving away from their old Premiere accounts to something new.

It appears that the new system will be set into two categories. These categories will be labeled as a Silver or Gold Premier account. In a nutshell, what you currently pay for a Premier account ($69/month for individuals or $129 for families) will qualify you for a Silver Premier plan. To get the mack daddy Gold Premier package you will have to spend $89.99 or $169.99 plan for individuals or families, respectively. Remember those lovely 12 month full upgrades? Well you can say goodbye to those unless you are part of the more expensive Gold Premier package. That stings just a little bit! Be prepared to see this soon because according to our tipster this new system will take effect April 1. No that is not Sprint’s cruel April Fools joke!

That’s the latest from the ol’ rumor mill. One can assume that they will be paying more money with Sprint in the very near future. Is this really a surprise? Not at all considering the insane amount of data that the average smartphone consumes these days. So be prepared for a price hike Sprint customers.

flattr this!

since it takes them 2 years to get a new webos device anyway, the 12 month upgrade plan wasnt used anyway.

Well, Ryan You Wrote Another Brilliant Article. However, As A Premier 3 Status Customer With Sprint I Can Only Achieve My Gold Standard By Waiting Til February When I Will Have 10 Years Of Service With Them Because As Of 04/01/2011 I Will Go From My Current Premier 3 Status Down To A Silver Level Because My Monthly Unlimited/Everything Family Plan Is Only $129.99 A Month With 3 Smartphones Currently On My Account And All Of The Phones Having Different Contract Starting Dates It Seems To Me That I Am Heading Up The Nearest Creek Without A Paddle. So Being Sold On Sprint And Being One Of Many WebOS Enthusiasts I Guess I Will Start A Piggy Bank And Hope I Can Build Enough In It Each Month For My “New” Silver Star Status Along With Increasing Monthly Fees. Wow, This Is Really Disheartening News Especially When So Many Of Us Current Sprint Customers Have Stayed With Them For Years And Never Left To The Competition To Pursue Their Grass That May At The Time Appeared Greener On The Other Side Instead Of Staying True And Faithful To Sprint. Is It Just Me Or Does It Seem Like We As Sprint Faithful Have Just Been Slapped Across The Face. I Am Feeling The Sting Already And Have Not Even Made My First Of Many(Need I Say) BLOATED Payments For Remaining Faithful And Committed To Sprint. VERY, VERY, DISTURBING….(No I Am Not Starting With The Whole CAP’S Only Thing Again) You All Spoke Loud And Clear Enough For Me To Hear The Point You Were Making….L.O.L.

Got no problem with the ALL CAPS Nor Having Each Word In Caps…

We have been Gold for a while now under this….although somehow I got screwed and my wife’s line ended up being the Premium and not mine.

Sprint has saved me about $500 per year over the others. I can see a little increase. It is the taxes that need tobe cut. Local, state & federal taxes add over $35 bucks to my bill – enough for another line! However: I watched Sprint pass up the Pre Plus. I thought- Okay, it is not much change I’ll wait. Then The Pre2 – I thought Okay, that was Palm’s last phone before HP So I can wait until spring. Now the raised data prices – I thought – at least it is unlimited… Now they loose the upgrade without higher costs? I am thinking now we are in a good chunk of that $500 and the iPhone looks good- but lets see what they will carry by March 30… I got newsfor you Sprint: I am not JUST here tosave money…

First of all…SPRINT rocks….and this coming from me is quite something…I started in wireless when digital was first starting out…I used to work for a company that was call Aerial Communications, they blended with all the rest of the GSM companies and became Western Wireless which soon became Voicestream only to end up as T-mobile. I can not vouch for what is now T-mobile but when we were Aerial…we OWNED Sprint in all of our Markets including Kansas City which is they home head quarters. When I moved back to South Dakota there wasn’t any choice but to go with Sprint as my digital carrier. I have been with them over 10 years now and I would not have anything else. They have been nothing but good to me..IF there is something wrong with my bill they fix it…if I am late they help me out, I have had so many different phones with Sprint I can not remember them all so as far as I am concerned they are so much better than Big Red, AT&T or T-mobile.

Now 2nd of all…I am sure if you have a plan that you like they are not going to make you give it up just because they start this new system…they have never done that to me in the past and I do not see them doing it now…I am sure these new plans will involve NEW customers or people who choose to change from an existing plan they have now….

Like the rest of you Web OS people I want to see a Sprint version and want to see it soon. I was a hair away from purchasing the EVO but am so glad I did not. It has been tough but I am waiting it out and am rather certain there will be Sprint Web OS phones very soon. Just saying…..

I’m not even sure I’m gonna stay with them as they’ve yet to support any new webOS hardware.

Welp, it’s official then. Buh-Bye Sprint. If I have to pay the higher prices of other companies then it’s off to Iphone land I go. They have been jacking up the price of everything for the last year or so anyways. 5 dollars if you don’t let them auto deduct your payments, 5 dollar this and that, just jacked the price of a reconnect up to 35 dollars. Now this garbage? Less quality coverage area, messin up my bills, and letting the person that stole my phone sell it back to them with me on the line with them listening while I was reporting it were all cool when the billing plan was cheap and made sense. Now they can eat a ff…f.fff…. I won’t do it, but I’m betting I’m not the only one wanting to say it either.

Looks like this is official: http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/20/sprint-tweaking-premier-program-april-1st-making-early-upgrades-more-elusive

However, if you’ve been a Sprint Customer for 10+ yrs, you are automatically in the Premier Gold Program.

I am not one to get a new phone every year or two. I use and keep what I got and I am happy with it. I just make sure I have the insurance on the phone and when it goes out they replace it or upgrade it for me. For example, years ago I got a Palm Treo 650. With the insurance they’d replace it. Because one time they ran out of the 650s they replaced it with a Treo 700p and then later with a Treo 755p. It is too expensive to buy a phone every year or two. I also feel it is wasteful to buy a phone every year. In the 7 years with Sprint I only purchased two phone. The Treo 650 and the Pre.

So does that mean that they will raise all accounts or just new sign ups after jan. 30th?. If they change your contracted price… Aren’t they in breach of contract and you are not liable for fees if you walk away?
