VOTING TIME! It’s webOS vs Android! (UPDATE: webOS Wins!)

By: , 1/31/2011 2:22 pm | 48 comments

Okay, webOS fans! Laptop Magazine is at it again with their polls, this time pitting operating systems against one another. Having defeated Meego, webOS is now pitted against Android OS which may have a lot of users and high end hardware, but not necessarily the best OS. We all know what that is, right? Voting ends 9am February 2nd. Let’s show these robots how we do it. Vote!

[Source: Laptop Magazine]

UPDATE: With 9,548 votes cast, webOS has won in a landslide, garnering 58% of the vote versus 42% for Android! Next up is the winner between Windows Phone 7 and iOS…  BRING IT!

flattr this!

We shall see. We’re in the lead, for now.

As much as I can see WebOS is a bad christian. It is slapping Android! ;)

    • Abraham Arango

It is almost over and we winning by over 1000 votes!!! Hooray for WebOS!!

    • Daniel Hart

There’s a reason why we won. WebOS users are united, so a huge majority of us know what’s happening, in this case this poll, we knew about it, we voted, we won. Simple!

  • Jeff H

Very difficult vote! Having used both, I found good and bad on both sides of the camp. WebOS is a breeze to use, great user paradigm, awesome support/homebrew community .. but lacks great hardware and generally has less powerful apps than other platforms (for now). Android is very customizable from a UI standpoint, has plenty of extremely powerful apps (PicSay Pro comes to mind..), and has a ton of hardware options.. but that comes at a price. Android’s platform is very fragmented and relies on the will of manufacturers and carriers to decide who gets updates and who doesn’t.. this can lead serious security holes taking months to patch or never getting patched at all. Not to mention apps not being available to all devices or not working properly across different devices with the same OS revision.

I think I’m going to vote webOS.

    • yarsj

This is an operating system poll NOT a hardware bowl so shush about pre’s hardware.

Also, the caliber of available apps is not very relevant. How the OS handles the apps is what this poll is focused on. How easy is it to find what you want to do with the phone? How fast does it respond to what you input? Does it handle available resources well? The biggest app related fault WebOS has IMO is that it still needs APIs (like microphone) which should be coming before this contest is even over.

I just voted. Were on our way to another VICTORY!!! I’m sure the voting will get closer but we’ve beaten android before. Even android users like webOs better. Not that it matters cuz what really matters is what I think about the Os and for me webOs is the that’s best.

  • Sonypanache

Let the BEST OS win i dont want a single OS having monopoly in the market. It would be great to see WEB os made open source as android & then see the real competition. Both has plus & minus. Web os success depends on the product line up which the company is going to come up with. then comes developers. these polls means really nothing the real poll is on the market.

    • Palm Junky

True, but when webOS wins on these types of polls, it make us feel better ;-)

      • BaDrI

Absolutely…I wish to see how this David take on the Goliath

    • Joe

Much of WebOS is open source, but what isn’t argued is that WebOS is more OPEN than Android. HP/Palm embraces the home brew community, rather than putting fuses in place to kill the phones of those wanting to play. The choice is pretty simple.

      • Anonymous

Actually, it is the manufacturers that put in those fuses. If you want you can download the android code and build it yourself. HP won’t release the webOS source code. So again, if we are talking about hardware you have a point, but this is about the OS.

We are 68% and android is 32% or something. Out of almost 2000 votes.

  • http://twitter.com/Karotte_exe Eric

if webOS would have so much apps as Android, WebOS would kill the iOS

  • TMStage

Just voted. Keep fighting the good fight, fellow webOS users!

  • Joseph

3732 votes. Intriguing. But I cast my solo into the swirl.

  • John K.

Just like in Chicago, vote early and often. Just 4 hours left and webOs is still in the lead! Don’t stop voting now. Push push push! Finish strong community!

  • Riosliq

Just voted! WebOS still in the lead 53% to 46%…Lets go community!

  • Joseph

Politically interesting, the unused webOS 2.0 versus an unspecified Android version, like say, Honeycomb?

  • Jeffrey

Got my vote it! WebOS should take this!

  • Xlax24

I had a pre before, now an Android and … I voted for webOS. Lack of cool devices but damn it’s the best OS out there

  • Jckatz

I voted on Firebird, Mozilla, Opera, IE (YUCK), Safari, Now time to clear my cache and change ISP and start again.

  • KenW

I have recently switched from a Pre + on AT&T to a Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile to save money. The Pre OS is a huge step better than Android. I actually prefer my old WM6.5 to Android. Android is buggy, slow, and poorly integrated. I wish beyond words that I could get a WebOS phone on VM. For now, I will settle for $45 for 1500 minutes, unlimited text and data and Android. Maybe in the future…..

We’re over 1000 votes ahead woow keep it up

  • Makatram

I love webOS and have voted but also feel a little silly because its HPwebOS 2.0 which I dont actually have yet……I want my 2.0

  • http://www.facebook.com/atresiamusic Derek McDonald

I went to the link again on my pre and voted again, it’s apparently not closed. I think the article should be updated again since we need these last few hours. Although we’re up by over 1000

    • http://www.webosroundup.com/ DanR

      Many thanks, Derek! Done.

it’s funny that this poll features so prominently on webOS blogs. But no mention of it on the android sites. Goes to show that they don’t spend nearly the same amount of time on meaningless polls. Must be cause their phones do so much.

    • http://www.webosroundup.com/ DanR

Wow. So many ways to answer this…..

  • LtMke

    WebOs 58%
    Android 41%

  • http://www.facebook.com/abethebabe123 Abraham Arango

    We won!!

  • Joseph

Was this a Mubarac style election? Did every Egyptian get a fair one man vote experience? Nah, just kidding. webOS jumps another relevant hurdle. (And as every modern business person knows… The best problem to surmount is the one you invented in the first place… as long as the problem you invented wasnt a problem at all.”)
