We’ve all read the leaked info about the tablets and, for the most part, they were correct. The biggest exception is that these will come with 1GB of RAM installed, not 512MB, as we originally were told. Resolution will be 1024×768 which is par for the course, except the lamination process involved will be much like what is seen in the iPhone4. That is, the pixels will be right up under the surface of the screen rather than a layer or two deeper. Planned availability is “this Summer”.

Here are the specs:

  • 1GB RAM
  • Color: Black
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2GHz
  • Width: 240mm (9.45 inches)
    Height: 190mm (7.48 inches)
    Thickness: 13.7mm (0.54 inches)
  • Weight: Approximately 740 grams (1.6 pounds)
  • 9.7-inch XGA capacitive, multitouch screen with a vibrant 18-bit color, 1024×768 resolution display
  • Front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam for live video calling4
  • Video Calling
  • Internal stereo speakers and Beats Audio
  • Light sensor, accelerometer, compass (magnetometer), and gyroscope
  • Audio formats: DRM-free MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, QCELP, WAV
    Video formats: MPEG-4, H.263, H.264
  • Wireless Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n with WPA, WPA2, WEP, 802.1X authentication;
Bluetooth® wireless technology 2.1 + EDR with A2DP stereo Bluetooth support
  • 16GB or 32GB internal storage
  • Rechargeable 6300 mAh (typical) battery
  • Charger/microUSB connector with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed
  • HP webOS 3.0

Other bits of awesome:

  • Synchronized accounts between your Palm Profile on the smartphone and TouchPad.
  • Comes bundled with QuickOffice
  • VPN and Skype. TouchPad is compatible with HP networked and wireless printers.
  • A line of TouchPad accessories. There’s the wireless keyboard we saw leaked before. Can charge on dock in portrait or landscape. Dock charges even on case.
  • Touchstone dock has adjustable angle.

flattr this!

    I’m in YES!

  • Bob

Wohoo! I’ve been waiting for this! :) I love that it comes with 1Gig of RAM too. Anyone know what the regular camera specs are on it?

    • Bob

Crap… Just read the official spec page. No 4G and no backside camera, only the front facing one for webcaming.

      • Anonymous

        4G eventually

        • JDM

My goodness… Isn’t 3G enough? I don’t know how it is in your area, but Sprint’s 3G in SLC is pretty snappy. Maybe half that of the house internet (fiber optic to wireless router)

          • Darkgift

Yeah, 3G is ok. But with 4G you can talk and surf at the same time.

  • Marcus

    Summer!?!? Wow, another BIG let-down!

  • Jeff

Come on! They said a couple weeks after they were announced. I consider this an epic fail

  • Darkgift

Summer? Really? Way to drop the ball!

I think these devices are fantastic. Yes it’s to bad they won’t be out for a while but I don’t have an upgrade until may anyway so I have to wait. These are packed with power and will be worth the wait. Anyone who leaves now. Good ridence

    • Danar

Promises, promises. So what if it has all this great sounding stuff.
Will it work? I don’t know. Do you?

Funny. I’ll say good riddance as I leave. My upgrade was ready back in September. I’ve already been waiting…patiently. Yes these devices look awesome (minus 4G) but my Pre minus is on it’s last leg. I’ll come back next year when the devices are better. Can’t wait any longer. If they said March, I’d stick it out.

    • Derrek

I’m with you John k. My pre minus is about done. I hear it is hard to find one to work till then. :(

      • Darkgift

I’m not John K. I’m Darkgift…lol. But I hear ya. Guess I’ll Evo it up for a yr and come back.

Wow so I can wait till summer to find out that this thing costs more than an Ipad with no where near the number of apps.

By that time Apple will be getting ready to deliver the Ipad 2 and you will prob be able to get original Ipads at a good discount.

    • Michael2255

      Hello iPad2.

      • JMWPainter

Good for you. I’m very proud of you. Congrats. I on the otherhand will get it BECAUSE it’s not an iPad.

  • Radio204

I’m sick to my stomach right now and I really can’t explain why.

WOW… Talk about the ‘I want it and I want it now’ attitude, is nobody prepared to actually wait for anything these days? All the new products look great, the Veer is a worthy successor to the Pixi, Pre3 improves on its predecessors while retaining the form I love while the TouchPad gives me iPad matching hardware with a brilliant OS. I can wait, hell I was prepared to wait for the Pre (UK first day release model still going strong with no serious hardware or software problems). The wait will actually give me time to save the money to buy all this new gorgeousness.

    • Darkgift

If I wait til summer, it’ll be 2 years. I have both a Pre and Pixi (minus varients). I was a very loyal and patient customer. But now, my ass feels sore. I wonder why. Adios you poor deluded fools. Maybe I’ll see ya next year when better devices are available and released in a timely fashion.

    • JMWPainter

I’m waiting. I want it that bad.

Say what? Rumor has it that the iPad 2 is in production, and HP will not be ready until almost a year from now? Who does HP expect to buy these products, fanboys only? Were talking about all the devices, except the Verro being dated immediately on release compared to other products. I’m going to hold onto my phone until summer, but I am not automatically going with HP when I’m ready to upgrade; too much money involved. webOS was the edge that we had, despite weak hardware, when the new area of mobile devices started. That edge has nearly been lost to both iOS and Android; the playbook is also multitasking very well. I have a feeling that by the time these HP devices come out, there will be no webOS edge to prop up mediocre hardware.

And here HP blows another opportunity: One in which it could have trumped both the iPad 2 AND the Playbook to market

Summer? Well, way to fail HP. What happened to not announcing something and waiting forever to release it? Did they learn nothing from the Pre launch? *sigh*
