Recently we discussed the vast realm of possibilities that stemmed from HP slapping webOS on their PCs. Almost as if on cue, Phil McKinney did an interview with the Seattle Times to discuss this further. Unfortunately, the Seattle Times seemed more interested in the whole Windows vs. webOS nonsense than exactly how webOS on PCs was gonna work.

Well, how ’bout we hear it straight from the horse’s (sorry Phil, it’s just an expression) mouth? Check out the video above as Phil chats with Roy at HP’s Think Beyond event about webOS on PCs.

flattr this!

It’s a pity that HP is forcing a markup cost to $150.00 with a two year contract under Verizon. I can understand wanting to recouperate the costs but this is insane. When all is said and done what can be placed as loyalty. HP wants to recouperate costs and that hurts.

What does that have to do with this interview? Sheesh…some people are never happy

    ha, and for a moment I thought i had a phone call…

    • Katefields

Me too! I started hunting for my phone. :)

Damn that sucks the Pre2 for Verizon is $149.99 the only way to get WebOS 2.0 damn it. Is this the something special?

  • Anonymous

The something special is now you can buy a new laptop, a new phone (especially if you just got hosed on the 2.0 debacle), and a new printer. The extra kicker for HP is that they make they least reliable laptops in the business so they will be able to sell many to the same customers. This way HP never reaches market saturation, SURPRISE!!! Hows that for something special?

Why is noone asking if they are going to require you to buy the same app for each platform or if it will work on all three devices synced to one palm profile?

I think I read or heard somewhere that you’ll have one Palm Profile that will work on multiple devices, so your apps, contacts, calendars, memos, messages, etc. will be mirrored on your phone and Touchpad.

  • Paul

Hey I was wondering on the webOS app when you click a link to an embedded video why does it open the mobile website instead of the video? Thanks Paul,

We will be adding HTML5 video support at some point. We have a number of video providers we use so we’ll have to figure out how it all works but we do want it to open in the app.

I figured that’s the way it would work on PC last Wednesday when the announcement was made.

  • Greg Mair

I hope they make it so I can have webos on Windows XP and Vista and not only windows 7.

The one thing I’m worried about is if my whole family has webos phones, I want my stuff separate from the other users, I think we need some sort of sign in like windows has where I can have share files, and Private files,

I don’t want anyone to just turn on my computer and see all my recents text, Emails and stuff.

  • Mannyman

    Nice interview

The only problem I have with this “super-cool” connected ecosystem is that HP has to convince folks to make their homes webOS households… in other words, if I want that cool webOS stuff on my laptop, I have to have an HP phone that can support it………. just not too sure folks are gonna want to buy into that. HP needs to play their cards carefully, but strongly.

But what if you can play Angry Birds on your PC? I actually think this move is brilliant and that people aren’t seeing the full potential. From the sounds of it, if some developer creates a great game for webOS, and makes sure the content scales, they can just create that one game and be able to not only target 2 mobile platforms (phones and tablets), but also target Windows users on PC’s and Laptops. Imagine being able to basically deliver “Windows” apps by simply developing a scalable webOS app, and have your customers be able to use it where they want.

I think it has the potential to deliver on the Java promise in a way that I don’t think Sun really ever thought about.

  • Alan

It’s got to be an open system to allow other companies to support it…thats why android is everywhere…it means more competition for hp but I think they can handle it.
