If your an avid follower of webOSroundup, then you have seen the news that with a little technical expertise and assistance from the wizards of WebOS Internals, your Pre or Pre Plus can now be upgraded to webOS 2.1. That’s exciting stuff, but now we have some great news in addition to it. Over-clocking kernels for webOS 2.1 are now available through Preware for those now upgraded devices.
What does that mean? If you have the means and mind to upgrade your Pre to webOS 2.1, you can now make that shiny new OS install run more smoothly thanks to the magic of higher clockspeeds and all of the other goodies a tweaked kernel brings to the fold.
So like many instances with good news also comes a bit of bad. uNiXpSyChO, creator of many of the bespoke kernels, has stated that with the creation of these webOS 2.1 kernels, 1.4.5 over-clocking kernels will no longer be updated. This might be bittersweet news for those who haven’t yet or won’t upgrade their legacy device to webOS 2.1, but it certainly is fantastic to see the state of webOS homebrew pushed to the next level for older hardware.
So readers, are you going to upgrade your Pre or Pre Plus to webOS 2.1 and if so will you over-clock it? If you know, let us know how your experience goes and in the meantime we’ll continue to keep you posted with updates to this story.
