HP Summit 2011 Meeting Wrap-Up – Part I [Update: Video!]
For fans of webOS there was a lot to like about Léo Apotheker’s presentation at the HP Summit. There was a lot of focus on webOS and how HP will leverage it as part of their push into cloud computing. HP’s CEO said that through its scale and global reach they have the “… potential to deliver more than 100 million webOS enabled devices a year.”
Léo also talked about how HP will be using its platform to provide a single interface to a user’s information. HP is clearly planning for webOS to be the glue that binds together its various offerings: PC’s, printers, cloud computing, enterprise software and more. What remains to be seen is if they can convince developers to target webOS as a cloud-based delivery platform for apps and content.
There were several appearances of the Pre 3 and the TouchPad in one of the promotional videos. We’ll see if we can get a copy of the video so you can take a look.
The summit is still going on, so if anymore webOS goodies come up, we will update this article.
Update: HP has a press release
Update 2: Key points
- TouchPad is coming in June (better than August right?)
- webOS to PC beta will be by the end of the year
- webOS will “integrate with Windows” rather than dual-boot
- HP is betting heavily on the cloud…heavily almost seems too small of a word.
Update 3: Leo is up on YouTube
