HP Summit Recap: Connectivity

By: , 3/14/2011 6:07 pm | 22 comments

One of our favorite people, Todd Bradley, came out during the Summit and talked Connectivity. This obviously has implications for webOS so our ears perked up. Here is what he had to say.

  • 2 PCs a second, 2 Printers a second, 4 servers a minute are sold by HP. We have heard this before, but it is still mind boggling
  • HP is focusing on “seemlessly and securely” connecting all of their customers…everyone from kids to business people
  • “webOS is the foundation for connectivity”
  • All products are seamlessly integrated…that is the goal.
  • Enterprise-ready apps for webOS is a huge opportunity
  • Catalog will be updated to allow for custom views for enterprise specific apps
  • Enyo will allow devs to build an app once and work across tablets and phones
  • Developers have a choice of developer tools including Ares, PDK, and Enyo
  • “Our goal with webOS is to extend it to the broadest range of customers, devices, and developers”
  • Next year HP will migrate existing printers into the ecosystem
  • “All of HP is committed to investing in webOS”…sweet, sweet music

flattr this!

    Can anyone else say “yay!!”?

    • ShmungerWOS

      Yay!!

  • XViolentSaintx

yeah! I’ll buy one right away! So I can be left holding the bag like I was with my “legacy” pre! I’ll stand in line to have hp pee on my head and tell me it’s raining.

Hey VS what’s going on? Uwishuwereme here! All this talk here about cloud this and printer that and mention of the touchpad coming in june or “coming months” as always but what about the pre3? Announce and hold. HP YOU SICK OUT LOUD

I have no idea what these last two comments are even talking about. I think some people don’t get it yet, it’s not about a couple Palm phones and a padlet, updated on a yearly basis. This is about ALL of HP going forward. This is a complete goal/focus of the company as a whole. Stop being so bitter and suck it up.

    • ShmungerWOS

You guys hear him? Suck it up! Seriously, we were all whining about the vagur release date for the Touchpad and how much HP really intends to publicize webOS. At least they addressed those concerns. Lighten up :P

I’ve sucked it up, because that’s all hp has. You can’t sell suck, publicity or vision. You can sell devices, but hp doesn’t have of those, so this is shaping up to be a billion dollar failure. What apps will be available for the touchpad upon release. Believe in the vision or vaporware and/or promise, but I have sucked it up on the strength of the webos internals team; not by anything hp has done. Their vision is unfocused. Their execution is awful, and their overall promise is woefully unfullfilled. Most of you supporters are saints and/or visionaries, but there’s no point in supporting betamax beyond the life of the videotape medium itself. Hp needs to do ONE THING WELL before anyone wants their devices. Maybe enyo is it. It better be, because the rest of it is unfulfilled promise. That’s not bitterness, it’s the frustration of knowing webos isn’t even in this race. They’re still in the pits.

I have to agree. Hp may think it has a vision of being the princess of the ball but the ball is all ready over and hp still doesn’t have a dress. I read these webos roundups everyday waiting to hear something other than hurry up and wait. It’s just a good thing there is a service contract to force pre users to wait because that’s the only choice we or any future customer has right now. Apple may not have the prettiest dress but it was done, sized, worn and boxed away with the next one on order.

  • TIS Computer

Geez… Why do 75% of you guys even log on and read things here! So many of you are just mean and negative! Go post on an apple website if you hate HP/Palm so much!
I for one am interested in the future of Webos.

  • StvC.

For hp to load webOS onto all their devices, they need to have approval from their board members and answer to a whole lot of other people. To suggest that hp doesn’t know what it’s doing suggests that they’re in the game in order to sink their own company. The best way to predict future behavior is to look at past behaviour. Can anyone here point to any previous gaff’s that hp has made in the past?

    • Micah R

      Compaq

      • Joseph

Compaq was a successful purchase. Suggesting it was otherwise shows ignorance.

        • Raun

So successful the ceo lost her job? Talk about ignorance.

    • Raun

Outsourcing their production, letting go of top talent including webos developers, acquiring legacy albatross Compaq and becoming a laughing stock in their fight with their former ceo Hurd and Oracle then tying all their hopes to webos and now shifting the webos development to the internal hardware team on a the late hardware they abandoned a year earlier, before announcing they would release devices within weeks of announcing new hardware which occurred 5 months before they plan to release new hardware. I think the question is a setup.

  • Brother Al

    Um, yeah…. sure.

To that, all I can say is that I’m waiting… Still. If this miracle of a webOS ecosystem comes into reality, so be it… However, the sad fact remains… Nothing still forthcoming about a Pre 3… I don’t understand the extra hoopla here about tablets…. this is a “Pre” based “webOS” site… Or so it was anyway… Meanwhile, I see less & less Sprint users with their trusty Pre’s because we have nothing to go to, save a for dying Pre’s, and hijacked Verizon Pre Plus & Pre 2′s… We’re still in limbo… I’m edging closer to an Android by default …not by choice.

Gonna be hard for me & the countless others to “Think Beyond” what we’ve gotten thus far when those great new new things finally come out…
