webOS printing is here! (sorta)

By: , 3/31/2011 2:59 pm | 8 comments

Remember the promise of printing from your webOS phone? Well, now you can do just that…although any phone can do it so I dunno if I feel special anymore.

HP is hooking up with Google’s cloud print support to allow you to print from any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or internet connected pony. In other words, no PC required.

All you need is an ePrint printer and it’s @hpeprint.com email and you are good to go. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Welcome to the future people, does it feel good?

flattr this!

Like you said, it’s not a ‘special feature.’ But HP thought it a good idea to team up with Google for this one, so can you fault them for doing so instead of paving their own path.

I guess HP likes Google as a bff and doesn’t think they are a direct competitor.

This is just the “basic” thing that is going to be enabled to anybody with legacy devices and for those who want to print from the Internet.

Who has followed the Feb 9th Event knows that the new devices (at least the Touchpad) are going to have integrated support for ALL HP NETWORK-PRINTERS. Which implicates that they somehow baked the drivers of those printers into webOS (so it basically will act just like a computer).

So once HP gets WebOS on their printers, will we have tap to print enabled on the next generation of WebOS mobile devices?

My printer (6500a Plus) has had the ability to print via email for months. I don’t see how this has anything to do with Google?
