App of the Day: Complete Browser

By: , 4/5/2011 9:07 pm | 15 comments

One thing webOS has seriously gotten the “short end of the stick” on is third party web browsers. While our Android and iOS toting friends have options outside of what shipped with their device we have not. There is a beta version of PreFox available for homebrew enthusiasts but it is really rough around the edges. In the end, we have had no alternatives to the stock webOS browser until now!

Enter Complete Browser from GP Imports, Inc. This is the first third party web browser that has graced the Palm App Catalog and we have to say it ain’t too shabby! It is rather un-webOS in it’s appearance and operation but it doesn’t stop it from being awesome. In a lot of cases it is quicker than the stock webOS browser and it is stuffed with features. The most notable feature of this browser is tabbed browsing. So instead of having  multiple cards you can just have multiple tabs open within the one card. Complete Browser still has a couple things it needs to add in future updates, but for now we are happy with it. Just being the first third party web browser for webOS is enough to earn it an App of the Day from us. So if you’re in the market for something new give Complete Browser a shot.

I’m sure it’s functional, but good god, that’s ugly. webOS is about form AND function; I hope this is improved. We’re not Android after all.

I like it, but screen real estate is short as it is, and this has a url bar, tab bar, and a navigation bar. If it adapts along the lines of the new FF 4 and Chrome styling I’ll be all over it.

  • PalmOn

    Does it support/play Flash video?

Not a bad app. But it’s missing a lot of things. One problem is that when you go type something in the search bar you actually have to manually delete the word “Google”. The text in the bar doesn’t disappear like it does with the standard browser.

      No Flash.

exactly, even if you have flash on your device, like I do, it doesn’t work unfortunately.

The browser is promising, but as it is now it’s not usable as my standard-browser (even if it would, you can’t change the standard-browser in webOS yet ;) ).

I thought flash didn’t work at first either because it showed that little block with a question mark in it. But if you click on it, it loads like any other flash content.

Ummmmm actually if you have a 2.x device that has Flash it works in this browser as well. I use it all the time

      I wish I had webos 2.X

Here you go. All of a sudden tabbed browsing is an advance, when before you dinged the competition for not using multiple cards. Catching up.

Now only if there’s a webOS browser that can pretend to be a desktop browser and play Hulu…

  • Marv

Tired of hoping I’m getting an Android

  • Kataran

    Always liked the stock browser

  • Matt

I would almost prefer a nokia 5150 to any palm or webos device. Terrible.

    Looks Good!
