webOS Keyboard Clears the FCC

By: , 4/29/2011 10:06 pm | 25 comments

Well boys and girls: webOS Bluetooth keyboard goodness isn’t too far away! The webOS keyboard has cleared the FCC’s poking/prodding and they have deemed it safe for us to use. So now is the time to rejoice since we know it wont make us glow like a light bulb after use! Believe us when we say that all of the webOSroundup staff will be buying one of these suckers as soon as it hits store shelves.

Will it work with webos 1.4.5?

    • http://www.arthurthornton.net/ Arthur Thornton

No, it won’t because webOS 1.4.5 doesn’t include the necessary bluetooth stack for keyboards (that came with webOS 2.0).

      • Choda Boy

Ahh, more “legacy” love from HPalm…

  • Tanker225

I believe it will, its a bluetooth keyboard so it should be compatible with all devices equipped with bluetooth…

Oh well. Yet another piece of webos new for the 1% (approximately) of webos users running 2.0, I guess. I wish this site would publish news for the masses, instead of about products that are unavailable.

Are you serious? If you are a webOS fan, then this should interest you. If you have sprint Pre, then just go buy another device for a year and come back later.

          • Marv

If I go to another device I might as well stay. HP losing more mobile customers everyday.

          • Choda Boy

            Sadly very true!

        • http://www.webosroundup.com Ryan St. Andrie

And what kind of news would that be dude? Sorry to tell you but there is virtually 0 news for webOS 1.4.5. Do you want me to make up some news for you? I’m truly sorry for the majority of the webOS community that is still holding onto a 1.4.5 device but you honestly didn’t think your Sprint Pre was going to get updates for the rest of your life did you? If you want to stay with webOS switch carriers or do a FrankenPre2 like I did. I know those aren’t ideal situations but desperate times call for desperate measures. In the meantime trust me when I say we will cover any and all news about legacy devices and software. Point being…THERE IS NONE!

I don’t get it… Why does WebOs need a specific keyboard? What makes it special for WebOs over a regular keyboard. I noticed the stacks button, but what else distinguishes it?

  • Still Here & Hangin On

Hmmm…more products from HP that I can’t use. Wow, sooo inovative. Can’t wait for 2012.

Now that I’ve read through all the crying and complaining what I really am interested in is how this will make webOS into more of a desktop productivity platform.

Will I be able to use the card key combined with tab to perform an ALT+Tab function like in windows? Honestly that would be a dream situation for me and I would use a touchpad for everything if they could do that. If there is mouse input like for the Playbook, that would make the touchpad a killer device.

I really hope there is something in place for a CARD+TAB function that will go to card view and then cycle quickly between them and maybe even zoom out a bit further so you can see where you need to navigate to. I wouldn’t expect it to reorder cards like windows does with alt tab, but at least go to the latest card if you just perform one card+tab click. That kind of quick switching is what made the gesture area and advanced gestures so amazing on the phone.

The touchpad combined with a touchstone dock, keyboard, and mouse, will be amazing.

Next week I get my sprint Nexus with way more useful apps and a company that actually supports their phones.

Wow! So much whining…..its hard to even read the comment section anymore due to the constant amount of tears I have to wipe off my phone.

I can’t wait to pick up that sweet new keyboard for the Tablet….(hopefully in June!)

      • PalmOn

At the pace HP is moving, you might get the keyboard before the tablet is even available.

Nothing constructive to say? Why open your mouth? If you’re that dissapointed, please just buy something else and stop bothering people that are still interested. Can’t we have all the whining moderated?

I wonder if the old Palm bluetooth keyboards will work. I bought one a few years ago for my treo and it doesn’t seem to work. Maybe it will work with the 2.0 or 3.0 WebOS.

    • http://www.arthurthornton.net/ Arthur Thornton

If you’re on webOS 2.0 then it should work. If you’re on anything earlier, it will not work, as I mentioned above.

Budget allocated for the end of the year – pre 3, touchpad, touchstone dock & keyboard

All of this excitment for a phone that is behind a phone that is DOA. All of the new android and apple phones will be dual core with NFC technology and super displays. If these products were released in Jan I would have bought one but now no way.

This seems pretty cool. But wait, this won’t work with my pixi minus, running 1.4.5? I jest…

I still enjoy my pixi though it’s painfully slow at this point. Oh well I think some people vent on here because people with other phones don’t understand. We love webos yet hate the hardware restrictions. Oh well the whining might stop if at least some webos hardware makes it over to sprint. I for one hope that slab form factor rumor was true, with a slide out keyboard. Would solve both problems of needing webos, and being able to stay with sprint
