New App(s) to Celebrate the Veer Launch?

By: , 5/10/2011 10:31 am | 54 comments

The launch of the tiny little power house HP Veer is almost upon us. As of May 15 this little webOS device will be available for AT&T for the paltry sum of $99 with a two-year contract. However, what good does it do to release yet another webOS device without some awesome new apps to celebrate the release of said new hardware?

Well Ubergizmo is reporting that there will be a major announcement Thursday at 0800AM EST. The announcement has something to do with the release of a major app from a developer that has over 11 million mobile users and has:

proved to be one of the Top 10 iPhone and Android apps in the reference categories.

Do we know what this app is? Not at all, but we figured this is juicy enough to pass along to our readers. Whatever this app turns out to be we just hope it is the start of a whirlwind of big name apps to hit the catalog in “the coming months”.

flattr this!

Reference? Umm kay. How about in the “Streaming movies from Netflix” category?” Or the “Editing Office documents on your mobile device” category? I don’t need reference. I have google.

    • http://www.webosroundup.com Ryan St. Andrie

Heh….you know I want some damn Netflix action!

  • Anonymous

It only takes a few big names to get the ball rolling. Bring it on.

In the Reference Catagory ?, WOW that surly will put Veer on the Map, Sorry folks for my attitude,
but One App will not make or break the Veer, we need more Quality Apps that keeps the Consumer entertained
with the Veer. Remember when Palm got Rovio to get Angry Birds on the Pre, did not made much of a change
either, HP need to start stepping up with Developers and i am not talking about those big ones, mainly us
smaller ones who can innovate with some crazy ideas, Where are the Documentation, where is the bloody
Hype for WebOS Development or Tools.

    • Dude

We won’t get more quality apps until HP/Palm learns to handle the App Catalog correctly. I have an update to an app, no need to say which one, but it will be a big update for webOS. Due to ridiculous policies for the app catalog (that obviously no one at HP/Palm has taken the time to actually check), this update has been in limbo for a week, and I don’t expect that to change soon. I can choose to drop support for all 1.4.5 users like HP/Palm so unceremoniously and unapologetically did, or I can hold out for everyone who has been wanting this update.

I just hope that by the time HP/Palm gets off their lazy bums and actually fixes the app catalog, and all ridiculous policies plaguing it, there will either still be 1.4.5 users to enjoy the update, or those users will have upgraded to 2.1 due to HP/Palm “making things right”.

Ha, “making things right”, what a joke! I’m starting to think Josh Topolsky was right for tearing webOS a new one…

There are allot that need’s to get Address with HP, there is no doubt about that, but they will hear it
as soon Developers and Consumers start complaining, and if they continue the way they are, then
consider WebOS another sinking ship “again”, but this time there will be no big Company saving it.

So far “making things right” is concerned, there is none, it’s called in HP circles “Passing the Storm”,
the most what pissed me off with the Legacy issue is that i had to hear it from PreCentral and then 3-5
different Versions to the reason why.

      • Raun

Uggh. There aren’t many developers left to turn off

  • Greg M

You dont even know the announcement and already putting it down.

I think it might be that medical app that is back and better then ever.

    • Bob M.

      Agreed

    • Steele_paladin

I wouldn’t mind a relaunched Epocrated Rx edition, but the webpage actually works pretty well on wifi.

      • Dude

But people are stupid, and if there isn’t a mobile app for it, it might as well not exist on their phones.

  • JDM

It’s a flashlight app; those are very helpful.

    • http://www.webosroundup.com Ryan St. Andrie

I heard it was the world’s most badass tip calculator

  • Keefer

    Kindle?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=613355691 Oliver Harrison

It’s definitely Kindle… I’m almost positive of it.

      • godstyle29

        Kindle makes the most sense.

  • TimmyB

Wow, I came over here to webOSroundup to get away from the non-stop cynicism at PreCentral, but I guess you can run, but you can’t hide, eh?

    • JDM

      Cynicism?!! We’re getting a NEW FLASHLIGHT APP! (and/or tip calculator)… We’re EXCITED!!!!!

Once upon a time when we were smaller the cynicism in our comments was nonexistent. Now we have more regular readers so it’s going to happen. Sorry man but don’t take the stuff personal. We are happy you read our site.

It could be size related, but it could also have to do with growing frustration at hPalm. Thats where my money is. Id bet PC wasnt so bad back when..

        • TimmyB

No doubt about that. I am a very cynical person myself, and also am frustrated with HP’s progress, but when people spout off about things that haven’t even been released yet, that to me is someone hoping HP fails, just so they can say “See, I told ya’.” If we get no news, or negative news, maybe. But when someone shares what could be positive news, and we see these types of responses…

Why do people knock the app cat….i think WebOs apps are cool…not long ago…IE three years ago I was impressed with solitaire and pacman

  • http://twitter.com/Robopaul Joerg Pohl

    Maybe Shazam?

Would be a nice step to gain attention. And I think WebOS 2.1 has all requirements are need for.

  • Michael2255

How about a magnifcation app to actually see what’s on the teeny, tiny screen?

    • JDM

      Hee hee

    • Shane

The screen is not that small . And I promise if you use one for more than a week or 2 you’ll want to keep it ! Just sayin !!

      • Dude

Yeah, it’s the same size as the Pixi, and people got used to the Pixi once it came out.

        • JDM

I use a pixi and it’s just fine. I can read my emails and go on websites and everything! But I don’t get properly sized apps for the screen… Boo hoo.

          • Dude

All the good ones are properly sized.

  • Marcel

How about an app that tells us when the hell we get some more phones on Sprin!!!

  • Mike

Sorry folks but its gonna be a super duper dictionary app!

  • Alisangry

    Shazam maybe? Please?

  • Reema

Tiny wings, Kindle, or Words With Friends.. Maybe. Hopefully its one of them.

  • BadBoyBri

I think it will either be Netflix or Kindle app. But either one, won’t do a whole lot for webOS. We need MORE big names, and LOTS of small ones. And all I have to say about the “cynicism” is The Truth Hurts!! We are ALL Tired of waiting, and we are ALL tired of the broken promises!! We Want Action NOW!!! Not “in the coming months”, NOW!!

  • Malette

Angry birds? Lol, well everyone does seem to have that.

  • PalmOn

It must be a really great device–since Best Buy will be giving it away for free (with a 2-year contract, as reported on Precentral).

  • http://www.facebook.com/retroblu Zeek Weeks

well guess it turned out to be the White Pages app …ill take it.
