Pre 3 Available for Pre-Order in Germany?

By: , 5/11/2011 12:09 am | 45 comments

The phone many of us have all been waiting for just popped up on Notebook.de for pre-order. Looks like the price to snag the big daddy of webOS phones will cost €449 which roughly translates to $646 here in the U.S. That’s really not a bad deal for a phone off contract. Based on that price we think it’s safe to say that it would be offered for $200-$250 with a two year contract.

Now for the bad news….availability for the Pre 3 is listed at 5-6 weeks! Considering how long most of us have waited to upgrade, five weeks can seem like an eternity. One thing is for sure though; there will be a lot more Pre 3 news in the “coming weeks”!

Source Notebook.de Thanks for the tip SmartFah!

flattr this!

By the time this hits the US it will be August.

I checked out the Nexus S today in the Sprint store. Sweet. Very, very sweet. I was standing there thinking about how a Pre 3 would look on display next to it. From all I’ve read about the Pre 3, I just don’t see how in the world it will compete with the Nexus S. That doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t buy the Pre 3, cause I really dig webos. But by the time Sprint gets it, if they ever get it, it’ll be twice as out-dated as it is out-dated prior to launch. Outside of die-hard webos fans, I really do not know who would buy the Pre 3. Oh well.

    • LOLer

Poeple still buy the outdated iPhone 3GS. Doesn’t mean everybody needs a “superphone”: If it’s smooth and works well, and it’s marketed and advertised as it should be, it’ll sell well.

      • PalmOn

I hope you are right about the Pre 3. As far as the iPhone, with the exception of the front-facing camera, there’s not all that much different between the iPhone 3 and 4–to the average consumer. The differences between the new Android phones and the Pre 3 are much, much larger. Believe me, I want a new webos device. But if it isn’t as fast or have similar physical quality, as well as app quality, then I think that’s as far as I go with webos–at least until they show they are ready to compete.

The real point is people still buy Blackberries. HP isn’t going to make a lot of headway against Apple or Google yet, but they can stake out some ground currently occupied by Blackberry and featurephone users before the juggernauts of Android and iOS storm through.

The Pre3 matches up well to the Bold Touch 9900, with a faster processor, bigger screen, higher resolution, front camera, world-phone capabilities. Matches up on a lot of other points, similar size (narrower but thicker), and of course runs a superior OS which currently has fewer apps. I realize that beating RIM isn’t much of a feat right now, but there some market there.

It does need to get out ASAP though, as the next class of Android phones (Evo 3D/Galaxy S II) will make the Pre 3 a much tougher sell.

        • PalmOn

And, from what I’ve been reading, it’s looking more and more like Verizon will be getting the Pre 3, and not Sprint–at least not right away. I’ve been holding off on my upgrade for the Pre 3. But if Sprint doesn’t get it first (or some other, superior webos device) it’s off to Androidland I go.

          • Wiesel

My frustration grows exponentially w every day that brings me closer to June 1st when I am eligible for an upgrade, because of HP/SPRINT being total asses for not disclosing if/when Sprint is included, leaving us poor bastards clinging ona to our pre-historic -pre like our lives depended on it.You know what? Enough’s enough, if I don’t have CERTAIN news by June 1st(hear yee HP/SPRINT), I am switching to Android and won’t be looking back to webos. That’s how I choose to “punish” HP for not working harder on COMMUNICATING with me(us) loyal bitch(es) that stuck so much time to this unreal bullshit.I am no Che Guevarra, and I’m being realistic, but I bet my money the game would change to 180° should every Pre owner did that. You don’t even deserve a “goodbye”, HP!

            Blame the american market.

Here in Europe you can now already pre-order it (as I did) and don’t have to ask yourself anything about “if your carrier allows this phone”… This is just a silly way to rob the customer.

As it’s written in the Pre-Central Forum: You can now also Pre-Order the Veer. It’s between 285 € to 346 €, already including taxes AND a Touchstone! :)

This is a really good price and a no-brainer. Makes me even think about buying just both of them. Both together would be what I would have to pay for one HTC-Device here in Germany…^^

          • BadBoyBri

I Agree with you Wieseel!! HP has proven to me, that they Couldn’t Care Less About Us!! And us Sprint Pre (minus) owners are the BackBone of webOS. When We Leave, webOS Dies!!! And I’m JUST as Disappointed, Frustrated, and Angry as everyone else. I’m waiting for the upgrade to the Samsung Epic. If it come to Sprint before the Pre 3, ¡Vio Con Dios, Mi Amigos de webOS! :-(

I know that Sprint will not get the Pre3 that’s why I already pre-ordered the Evo 3D. How I wish I could stick with webos but Sprint’s family (unlimited data) is hard to beat, by either Verizon or AT&T.

I had a smartphone that can make me coffee called the “Pomegranate”. That doesn’t mean that I had to use it to make me coffee. I just use it for everything else. I did feel it was a waste to have it & not use it though. I’ll stick to my WebOS phone because I use every bit of it unlike ANY fancy Android phone.

      • Jason

I actually tend to agree with that. I had all the phone and loved them but analyzed how I used it and found that I use only 5 apps most of the time. On the other hand webos has the perfect concept with multitasking and cards. I have my Pad but rest assured I will have the touchpad as well.

Hey, Hey!!! My tip landed on the front page. Woot!

I just hope the Pre 3 lands in the U.S. by the same time it hits Germany, if not before.

  • jacqofspeed

Is it just me or is this spec GSM only? Doesn’t mention CDMA or world phone that I can see. My German is not what it once was, however…
5-6 weeks is still June though!

    • Anonymous

It’s because we have not CDMA in Germany ;)

Also you should not forget, that such stuff usually gets shipped a bit later in Europe than in the states…

  • Marv

My wife just got her Nexus S (she had a pixi) and she loves it. I still have a pre minus but I have to agree with PalmOn the android phones are looking like they are to good to pass up. Tired of having a slow phone with no apps.

    • http://twitter.com/Cringer63 Jonathan

Funny because I am tired of having an Android phone with no good apps. They are all hampered by this crap OS and these lame buttons.

    • Anonymous

I’m glad I got a Pre 2 & was able to Sprintify it, other wise I might have been pretty tempted to get the Nexus S 4G as well. Something about a stock Android 4g phone is very appealing to me.

  • Wegf

for those still doubting, itÄs popping up in various shopping systems, seems HP distribute this one over their pc-partner channels: http://forums.precentral.net/showthread.php?p=2958906#post2958868

      Thank you! I just pre-ordered my Pre for 411 €! :)

There was also a cheaper shop, but that other one looked more trustworthy.

Edit: Feels good to live in a country with a free market where I don’t have to ask if “my carrier” is “getting” some phone.

Apparently android will surpass the apple app store sometime soon with the sheer amount of apps. When I check them out on my galaxy tab 90% of them are $%it3. What’s the point, Id rather have the best Os on my little pre plus than an android phone. After all a phone is a phone, not a slab device. And all the apps I have on my pre look gorgeous. Perhaps its the look of webos that does it. I personally think those with webos devices have a bit more intellect. Webos ftw

    • Marv

What’s the point? Android and Apple is kicking WebOS in sales and sadly big name Apps do matter.

      • James

You’re right marv It’s all about the apps, people don’t seem to understand that the reason HP/Palm could not release a new phone back in feb. after there event was they had no apps, and the reason it’s taking them so long to release anything, is because apple, and android are the only os’s that people care about making good apps for, big companys bow down to apple, and android while HP struggles to get them to create apps for the webos platform, because there is no way webos will survive without not just a lot of apps but big name apps from big name companys.

        • Wiesel

Developers not really interested into webos?(understandable why,its a vicious cycle after all) Fine, but I wonder how hard it would be for the “buckets of cash” loaded HP to simply create an app developer department?

Exactly! I love WebOS but you have to be a person who wants a one dimensional phone in order to stay with WebOS and good apps is what attracts people to your phone.

for the same amount, I sure hope a phone comes to Sprint, because i am not lashing out 600$ on phone, i mean
you guy’s ain’t going to buy a 30″ TV over a 52″ TV for the same price.

    • Andrew

Well that’s the european prices, the original Pre was a bit over $700.
