Thanks to our relentless tipsters (it’s Father’s Day, people!), we have been alerted to news that the sleuths at PalmPre-France have found that app listings in the HP App Catalog show app compatabilities with the HP device, codenamed “Palm Opal” (see graphic). If you’ll remember from not too long ago, there was some chatter about a seven-inch HP tablet codenamed “Opal” that was planned for release September 2011. This pretty much seals it, folks. We imagine HP’s wanted to be quite tight-lipped on the Opal in the wake of the TouchPad launch, so there’s no inkling as to release dates or pricing. Exciting stuff.

Does this change anyone’s plans for ordering the TouchPad?

flattr this!

Yes. I wasn’t going to stick with web os but if I could get a seven on plan with sprint I might just get one.

Dang nabbit! Now I need to see the specs on this thing…

As much as I’d love to get the TouchPad, I’ve been hoping the Opal was still in the pipelines, because there’s a much better chance I could afford that. Then, in a generation or two, throw down the money for the big dog.

Opal is definitively my thing. Not interested in a touchpad because of the size but this is just perfect!

I’m interested as long as it’s not letter-box format! A wide-screen 7″ display is too narrow in portrait orientation.

Yep, I think I’d be very interested in a 7″ form factor. I’m typing this comment on an iPad, which I enjoy, but I often find myself thinking “wouldn’t it be cool to have a full-fledged tablet like this in the size of my Kindle.” I like the iPad size OK for around the house, but a 7 incher would be great for schlepping around town with.

I feel exactly the same. I already have an ipad, and while it’s nice for some things, I would much rather have a 7″ for things like reading. I personally think the ipad is too big for that.

Well I wasn’t going to jump for the touchpad to begin with so doesn’t change my plan. I am interested in the opal more so because a 7 inch just seems more convenient, but of course it will come down to the specs.

now we’re talking. this can be a candidate to be in-car-portable-media-device without heavy alteration of center console. just plug-in the induction charger and set the 7″-tablet and you’re good to go. sweet! :)

Sounds good. In the meantime I pre-ordered the TouchPad 16GB. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000697331&tag=909mcom-20 Can’t wait. Looks great. I think I’ve seen every video about it so far too.

Speaking of in car, random semi off topic thought. GM has on star so I propose Ford and HP team up. I’d love to get me a new Ford with some webOS pre-installed device. Ok I will keep dreaming for now. :)
