wIRC Hits the App Catalog

By: , 6/22/2011 4:42 pm | 6 comments

Our friends over at WebOS Internals have released their new IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client named wIRC to the HP App Catalog ($4.29) after a year and eight months in the making according to a recent tweet. wIRC allows for one-on-one private messaging, chat, data transfer and file sharing on any webOS phone running version 2.1.x. Multiple servers and chat windows are also supported.

IRC is a form of real time Internet text messaging that has been around for over twenty years and is mainly used for group communication in discussion forums. Now you can enjoy it on your webOS device!

flattr this!

This is very interesting. Now we just need more webos users. Being a returning webos user I feel privaleged!

I thought it was a hybrid app, making it 2.1 only. And since there’s a bug preventing 2.1 metadoctored phones from viewing 2.1 apps in the catalog, I thought I would be unable to view it on my Pre+, but I can see it. Why can’t I see other 2.1 apps?? HP??

Great – but I get the ‘a required field does not exist or is empty’ error when I try to purchase – it will probably correct itself in a couple of days but happens frequently when an app is announced. How many purchases are lost due to this ongoing error?

Fyi-folks on 1.4.5 should know wire has been running on the pre since at least then, so if you homebrew you can still run it. Maybe even if you figure out how to buy it, not sure if that path is recommended or not tho..

Ran a beta of this long ago. Very nice, hope it’s had the edges smoothed for more than $4
