HP Sending Out TouchPad Survey; Shows They’re Listening

By: , 7/22/2011 10:31 am | 28 comments

Gadgetsonthego.net got a hold of a customer survey that HP seems to be distributing to new TouchPad owners to gauge their opinion on how it’s being being received. We know the HP brass are already well aware of the TouchPad’s shortcomings after initial release, and they are hoping to remedy them in an upcoming OTA (over the air) update.

There are over 25 different questions in the survey. Some of the more notable ones include:

  • Device loads applications too slowly.
  • Being worried about the security of my information if my HP TouchPad gets lost.
  • Finding the screen size not big enough.
  • Applications I need are not available.
  • Wish my TouchPad was geared a little more toward work…
  • Device crashes/freezes.
  • Trouble doing two tasks at the same time on one screen…
  • Device sluggish/slow to respond.

We’re glad to see HP is reaching out to actual users of the device to get their opinion. Let’s hope they put the survey’s to good use.

Did you get a survey yet? What questions would you like to see included that aren’t?

Awesome, this is why HP’s ultimate tagline will always be, “The PC is Personal Again”

“Let’s hope they put the surveys to good use.”

Exactly. That is what will show they’re listening. Sending them out just shows they employ an exec who took customer relations classes in business school.

If I ever get a survery I think it’ll last as a good roll of toliet paper.

Well that only benefits you. Thats NOT the spirit of the webOS community!

        • JoeZiehmer

Well, could order some more surveys up and give them to friends and family provided they are soft enough

          • JDM

Well, isn’t that a little harsh? HP just wants to make things better (hopefully), and you want to s*** on that (literally in this case, hah). They’re making an effort; and you’re suggesting that HP just continue to put out flawed products? That doesn’t make any sense, unless you just want something to complain about in the future…

          • JoeZiehmer

I’m not suggesting flawed removing and demoting Jon was a great ideal. The marketing tactic of lying to consumers was very harsh. Jon for his part stiffed HP knowing full well he was reserving WebOS 2.0 and future products to gain ire toward HP. In other words Leo has made all of the right decisioms except for keeping Jon.

Nope, haven’t got the survey yet.  I hope I get it, though.  I want to provide direct feedback to HP.  In fact, I wish they’d just call me.

  • Danaconda

I hope I get one. Anyone have any idea how they are distributing these?

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by email by a research firm engaged by HP to provide feedback on my experiences with the TP.  I responded that I’d participate, but haven’t heard anything since.

They forget to add,Any changes to hardware or any new feature that is not added you would
    add?

Some questions I would have liked to have been on my survey:

Are you planning to return your TouchPad?  (Yes)
Is the resolution (not screen size) too small?  (Yes)
Would you keep your webOS TouchPad if you cannot purchase a webOS phone from your current carrier?  (NO)
Are you willing to trust us after we lied to you so many times already?  (NO)
Do you prefer Android to webOS?  (NO)
Do you prefer iOS to webOS?  (NO)
Do you think the elimination of the gesture area and thus, many of the gestures, is a mistake?  (YES)
Do you think the gestures (full swipe card change, back swipe, etc.) made webOS easier to use on a phone than the Home and Back buttons on the TouchPad?  (YES)
Do you think HP understands what the customer really wants?  (NO)
Do you think the TouchPad is more like the original iPad than the new iPad?  (YES)
Do you think HP is too late to the tablet market?  (Maybe)
Do you think HP should already have new webOS phones on the market?  (YES)
Do you think developers will support the many versions of webOS on different devices (1.4.x on Pre, Pre+, 2.1 on Pre2, 3.0 on TouchPad)?  (NO)
Do you think HP has “made it right” as they promised regarding not releasing webOS 2.0 and Flash on the original Pre or Pre+?  (NO)

Oh, I like your q&a. You should send it to HP.

  • Anonymous

I actually sent HP an email about the Touchpad and they called me. I hope they are listening.

  • Anonymous

No they aren’t listening. If they are really listening to customers we would have our Pre 3s by now.

    • JoeZiehmer

Well, could order some more surveys up and give them to friends and family provided they are soft enough. Put them to good use and in the spirit of being face palm friendly mail them back.

Just give it a rest. You’re like a child obsessed with poop. This is a tech website where most of us want to learn new information. I already know what kind of toilet paper I like so just shut the hell up.

  • JDM

Okay, I usually can see the merit in people’s gripes about the way webOS has been treated (as well as the webOS faithful), but now it’s clear that some people just like complaining because they want something to complain about. HP is actually trying to make their products better and people want to wipe their a**es with the surveys. Really? I understand the hurt feelings, but moaning about a genuine effort is just kind of childish. Really.

    • JoeZiehmer

They hung onto Ruby for far to long.

Any idea how many surveys went out (how many TP’s have sold so far)?

  • Anonymous

They should have questions about the price of the product and they should have a different survey for people that do not own a touchpad.
I would like to purchase a touchpad with two touchstones, but i can not justify paying $500 for a touchpad and $80 for each touchstone.  It just doesn’t seem worth the price to me.
I’ve read/watched many many reviews; Engadget, cnet, techno bufflo, phonedog etc…  they all end the Touch Pad review with “This is a great device but I just can not recommend it at its $500 cost.”   So all reviews tell me “it’s not worth it $500″  and I can see that because the ipad2 which is thinner, faster, better battery, tens of thousands of more apps is the same price.
The 16GB should be either $350 or $400 with a free touchstone.  If it was released at this price I would buy two touchpads and one touchstone.  (one for me and one for my parents), but even though I can afford it… I can’t justify paying $500 for one.
Until you gain traction you have to lower your prices HP.  This way you will put the touchpad in the hands of more people and that is what attracts developers to your environment.

$125-200 for an Android tablet plus a growing consumerism market? Ruby really stiffed Leo up front.

        Troll much?

  • Brother Al

Jeremiah, it’s not so much trollin as it is voicing from experiences. A lot of us got burned multiple times over the last 4 years, more if you add in the Pre-/webOS developmental delays… The levels of resentment & dissatisfaction posted here are justified. Then there are all of the Devs who invested countless hours, time, & $$$ into the intitial webOS offerings & framework, only to see much of it go to waste.
Now Granted, HP took over a damaged/sinking ship & had to make a lot of changes to keep webOS viable… But up until recently, there hasn’t been much fence mending, so can’t wave off know/long involved bloggers as Trolls… That is an insult to the whole community, because even though they are skeptical & make their thoughts known, they stay on hoping to see HP get it’s act together.
