TODAY ONLY! Get a 32GB HP TouchPad for $427. Here’s How…

By: , 7/31/2011 3:03 pm | 27 comments

Folks, you have until 11:59pm TONIGHT to save a bundle on a 32GB TouchPad. How much is a bundle? Well, you can have a shiny new 32GB HP TouchPad for under $430… with free next-business day shipping!

You (or someone you know… wink) just need to meet the following criteria…

  • Be a college student or alumnus of a university
  • Own or have a history of owning a webOS legacy phone (hell, ask a friend!)
  • Buy a 32GB TouchPad from HP’s website by TONIGHT!

Our very own Dan Ramirez took to Twitter (@vara411) last night and detailed the steps. So, without further ado, here they are:

1) Go to HP Academy and set up an account. This works for both current students and alumni of accredited universities/colleges.

2) After the account is created you will be taken to HP’s online store where you can choose either a 16 or 32GB TouchPad. The academy discount will give you a $25 off the 16GB TouchPad and $42 off the 32GB TouchPad.

3) Use the promo code “LOGICBUY30” to get an additional $30 discount.

4) Make the purchase. (P.S. Make sure to select “Next Business Day” shipping! It’s not selected by default.)

5) Mail in your Make It Right rebate. Another $50 off (32GB model only!!!)

6) Repeat for a friend. ;)

7) As a bonus step, save 15% on TouchPad accessories on HP’s site with a purchase of a TouchPad, though we recommend cross-shopping with Amazon to see what you can find.

ADDED UP:

For 16GB TouchPad:

  • $499 starting price
  • - $50 Instant rebate from HP
  • - $25 Academic discount
  • - $30 LOGICBUY30 coupon

= 394 + tax ($105 in savings)

For 32GB TouchPad:

  • $599 starting price
  • - $50 Instant rebate from HP
  • - $42 Academic discount
  • - $30 LOGICBUY30 coupon
  • - $50 “Make it Right” Mail-in-Rebate (32GB models only)

= $427 + tax ($172 in savings)

This is the best way we have found here at webOSroundup to save the most amount of money on a TouchPad. [Dan's mother used this exact method to buy her 32GB TouchPad and got it for $466 after taxes. -Ed]

As an alternate, select CostCo stores have the 32GB TouchPad on sale for $479. With taxes, it comes out to be around the same. Check with your local stores to check prices.

Either way, act quickly. The “Make-it-Right” rebate applies to 32GB TouchPads purchased by July 31. After that, tack on another $50 to the 32GB model.

[Thanks Dan!]

flattr this!

Bought it at Costco. After manufacturer’s rebate and Pre- rebate it’s under $430.

Excellent! My local store did not have those great prices… too bad. CostCo does direct exchanges and has a 90 day return policy…

What is up with that article image? What it up with the additional launcher icons and lack of just type?

    • http://www.webosroundup.com/ DanR

Wow. Observant. I pulled it from our media gallery of pics……. perhaps a refreshed graphic is in order, eh??? Thanks. :)

Make sure to select next day shipping for free, it’s not selected by default. :) Also, an alternative to the HP Academy discount is the MasterCard Marketplace. It offers the same discount. http://www.marketplace.mastercard.com/coupons/hewlett-packard/2x-points-save-up-to-32/deal/68030/uSource/SHC2.

I just ordered one from HP’s website. I used my employee discount to get the $42 off. Also, that DEALS2BUY30 code still worked for me. I wish I read this article before I ordered it though. Can LOGICBUY30 code be combined with the previous code? Perhaps someone might be able to get an additional $30 savings :)

It appears as if the folks in my neck of the woods do not have patience with the software bugs that HP left  in the TP.  I have never witnessed so many tablet returns as I have the last few weeks at best buy. A TouchPad comes back every other day it seems, and frequently, multiple devices per day.  This breaks my heart.  I have done my best training my coworkers on selling this device, but, in the end, HP has seemingly preemptively sabotaged the adoption of this great product because it does not meet the layperson’s expectations, expectations Apple has set.  Please iron out the software bugs HP.  Where is the OTA software update, Mr. Bradley?  I cannot stand to see anymore TouchPads be returned to our store.

Sent from my HP TouchPad with webOS

That’s a real shame if you’re a fan and you’re using it for work. I’m getting mine for my own personal use. If you’ve got yours for outside of the enterprise, I strongly recommend trying out some of what homebrew has to offer. That’s what I’ll be doing. I’m a proud owner of a Pre+ since February 2010. I don’t abuse it but I don’t coddle it either. I’ve never had to replace it and I’ve tweaked it and overclocked it. I’m running it stable at a 500/720 conservative profile. Homebrew is already testing a 1.5Ghz kernel for the TP and I can’t wait to try that out.

Anybody who’s jailbroken or rooted an iOS or Android device should find “developer mode” on a TP equally as exciting, if not more so. I just jailbroke my parents’ iPad and I own a rooted Nook Color and I can tell you from experience homebrew tweaks and apps are not only easy to implement but do not void your warranty (except maybe the OC kernels), which takes the edge off of playing around with such things.

No, I’m not using it for enterprise, just personal.  I was lamenting the high rate of return on TP’s.  And, yes, like everyone  in these forums, I use(Preware) and donate to Rod and the gang.

Yah HP.. Also give a damb netflix app it’s all on you to ask netflix said they would make the app if HP. Would OPEN there damb mouthes for us who want it..friking fools

      • WebOSFan65

I too, would love to have Netflix on my TP. I read somewhere (either here or on PreCentral) that Netflix wouldn’t bother making an app for TP unless more than 500k units were confirmed sold. Perhaps other big name devs made a similar statement which would be a good reason for HP to do whatever they could to push more units out. Dropping prices would make a buggy device more forgivable IMO. I mean, when Walgreens was selling those $100 Android crap, there was tons of YouTube proof people were all over those things.

Yeah, I was worried that the public wouldn’t have tolerance for intermittent lagging performance and crashes of the TP.  Which is why the first update would be so important IF it adds more stability and evened out the performance.  That’s why I was ok with a soft launch.  In the last 2-3 weeks, the moviestore and kindle have released but the OTA is even more important to make a good impression on a picky consumer who has 5 other tablets to look at in the same store!
I would just tell some of the customers that the OTA is coming really soon and extend the return policy if you can to let them reevaluate when the first update comes out.

Nice to see Dan’s mom got one after all.

  • Otrain

Just saw the new playbook commercial where the guy answers his phone on his playbook. Really wish HP would release the Pre3 already!!! Or release 2.2 for the Pre 2.

    • http://www.webosroundup.com/ DanR

You can answer the phone on the TouchPad with pretty much any webOS phone… or possibly any PHONE for that matter. It’s essentially just a big Bluetooth headset… just pair it with a phone and you’re done. Nothing magical about that.

For SMS-forwarding, however, you need webOS 2.2 … why THAT update hasn’t been pushed yet mystifies me.

Has anyone actually gotten a non-webOS phone to pair with a touchpad? I have the touchpad and an evo 3d and have never gotten them to pair..

i keep having a problem where every time i answer a call on 1.4.5 on my Pre – the caller complains about an echo.  Is there a known fix for that or could it be exclusive to my TP?

        • Lollie923

I have a PrePlus 1.4.5 & sometimes I hear an echo, not very ofen @ all. Ii hope can find a fix. Other than that I very rarely have any problems w/my PPP.

  • Otrain

Yes. I like that feature. I am looking forward to sending and receiving text messages and using touch to share. Of course I still have not received my 2.1 update through vzw so I am not holding my breathe on getting 2.2 on a Pre 2.

For some reason my Google Reader is showing this article with all the $## missing throughout. So the title says ”Get a 32GB HP TouchPad for 7″

    • Mtv757

you know atleast there is still people that still care enough to complain and vent in these kinds of sites. I just hope hp can start using their leverage and deep pockets to turn things around soon and release a respectable product. It needs to happen now or they should just try to sell webos to the highest bidder and cut their losses…….

Signed up for an account, but I’m not seeing the academic discount.  I guess it’s a sign I shouldn’t buy it (lol I’m broke and need a new phone not a tablet!)

    • http://www.webosroundup.com/ DanR

Try resetting your browser, close it, and log in again. That happened to me as well.

  • PalmOn

Yea, but you still can’t set a calendar event for more than 24 hours in advance. Not a very smart tablet.

    • WebOSFan65

That’s not a reflection on the device is it? For some reason HP saw it reasonable to wreck an already working piece of software. The calendar is my favorite app on my Pre+. So disappointing to find it’s not exactly as enjoyable to use on the TP. Hopefully homebrew will have UberCalendar mod for TP in the works.
