Never mind that she’s leaving the Glee cast soon… but someone who definitely has some mass appeal is Miss Lea Michele. And now she’s starring in an HP TouchPad ad. And BTW she was OMG like soooooo excited to have done it:

So let’s see… thus far we’ve had:

Yeah… we’d say HP’s bringing out the star power to sell webOS. More, HP. We want more.

    Best one so far, IMHO.

Twitter for iPhone? – tsc tsc tsc! :)

Hmm, so will the OTA update allow video to play in card view ? I hope so and HP must fix the 2 gig barrier for video play back in this OTA update. It’s bad enough we have a 4 gigabyte USB file transfer limit due to the FAT32 file system :(

Not sure that’s gonna happen. Those images are simulated… but a patch can easily fix that on phones… would be surprised not to see such a patch make it to the TouchPad.

Thanks Dan. Actually, I made a decision not to install any patches. I didn’t on my PRE -, PRE Plus and I’m not going to install anything on the TouchPad. I have shared the issue of the 2 gig barrier for video with Richard Kerris and got a response on twitter: @richardkerrisrichardkerris
        @myDrpC we hear you.

I been doing allot of fusing lately at Hp (as you might already know :) about them stepping up their game.

On the PRE, video wasn’t a issue because of the small screen but a 9.7 display is a totally different monster. The TouchPad should play ALL video HD formats (1080p, 720p) without a glitch.

Currently, you can’t play ANY video format over 2 gigs and I’m not sure if they will ever be able to fix the 4 gig USB file system transfer limit because of the FAT32 partition with webOS without moving to NTFS :(

Allowing videos to play in card view like the playbook does would be a nice additional feature when they release the OTA update, hopefully very soon before the end of the month, YO!

No knock against your post, as I find it quite informative, but here’s the thing… why NTFS?  I thought WebOS was Linux based(?)… in which case, Ext3 or Ext4 file system would be more logical.

Also, though I may not need to say this, but I will anyway… It doesn’t really matter what filesystem is used, so long as it’s a modern filesystem, unlike Fat32 which has it’s roots in the 1990s (Windows 98).  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3#Size_limits for info about it’s limitations.  At a 1K-block size, a device running Ext3 could use files up to 16GB and address a filesystem up to 2TB.

As attractive as many of the current crop of tablets are, I’m holding off from buying one until I see one delivered to market that either comes packed with Ubuntu or a very similar Linux OS, or at least is one that is proven to be straight forward to port it to Linux.  I’ve been looking at the Acer ICONIA Tab W500, and so far I think this may be a good target for the port/experiment, but at the same time, there’s the Tenq P07 which is natively Ubuntu based.   This site (http://techietonic.com/an-ubuntu-netbook-os-tablet-pc-edition-2011-the-tenq-p07-specs-features/) has a run-down of the specs & features.  If they’ll ever get this to market, I’d probably be one of their first customers here in the states.  Anyways, I use Linux very heavily at home (about half of my roughly 20 systems are Linux based), and I’m the lead Linux Server Admin at work, so a tablet running Ubuntu is exactly what I need.  I don’t need a whole new ecosystem of apps, but rather I prefer the apps available on Ubuntu, Debian, etc.  These apps paired with a capacitive display, and either the Unity Desktop, or Gnome-Classic + Compiz (3D cube desktop) would be a real mind blower on a platform like the Tenq P07 or any comparably sized tablet.

I really don’t like how they do that stuff.  People are going to think the device can do that.  You know how the average consumer is.

I agree! Sets up for disappointment and confusion. Along with the video of what appears to be a rear camera showing them live. Anyways great promo’ing HP. I hope to see these folks using HP in real life.

In another one of the commercials, I believe the star took the touchpad away from their face while it was still talking. And it becomes pretty obvious if you stare at Lea Michele’s neck during her commercial, it gets super long because of the way she’s holding it.

    • Abe

      Pues claro que si vato!!

  • Abe

Someone please get this girl a Pre3 so she can send tweets from it instead of an iPhone!!!!

  • Danar

Another great ad….but what the hell is Exon doing on there. I hope it was just the end of a prevous commercial. Please tell me hp is not associating themselves with Exon. If that’s the case I’m out of here pronto never to be heard from again and that’s the truth.

    • Malette

I’d say that appears to be the end of a previous commercial, but whos to say they aren’t connected behind the scenes.

      • Danar

I assume so. It’s hard these days to know what I’m investing in. “it’s hard being green”(Kermit).
I do like these commercials. I think they should include the word WebOS more often though.

Nice ad, and off topic but webosroundup has recently become my first stop for webOS, PreCentral’s comments section has been so depressing for a while now.

Well done guys, keeping up the positivity at a positive time for webOS!

  • Kageheme

I had to google to find out who this girl was.

    • Amanda

Same here.  Had no idea who this person was.  Even more sad is that my kids didn’t know either.

  • Wheety002

Really! Me too … had to look it up to see who she is. I don’t watch Glee & don’t plan to. Just the commercials for it are bad enough … can’t imagine sitting through an entire show!!!

    Who really cares???
