App of the Day: Wallpaper Switcharoo HD

We all enjoy personalizing our gadgets, whether it’s with a fancy new case, or stamping a sticker on the backside to add a little flair to a somewhat drab exterior. TouchPad’s are no different. Another way to sport that personal touch is by adding a wallpaper image to the desktop. If you’re like me, you’ll grab an image from the web that suits your mood for the day. Wallpaper Switcharoo HD (OrbSix Software, $1.50) for the TouchPad takes care of this for you automatically and helps to give the TouchPad that “just like new” feel each time.

Wallpaper Switcharoo has been around for webOS phones for quite some time now, but the HD version brings wallpaper switching to the TouchPad in all of its 1024×768 glory. Once active (it can be turned off on demand) the app will load high quality images to the TouchPad’s desktop from various image categories that can be selected when the app is open including animals, fine art, flowers, nature, and many more. A “switch timer” can be set to change the wallpaper at set intervals from five minutes to once a week. One thing this version won’t do, however, is select your own images from the TouchPad’s onboard storage. This function is coming in a later version.

It’s been a treat waking up the TouchPad to find new images loaded to the desktop from all of the available sources. All of the images are of high quality and optimized for the TouchPad. Not one has repeated more than once. You can also change the image manually by tapping on the “Switch Now” button when the app is open in case one doesn’t suit your fancy.

    Just a thing to know: Switcharoo also has an exhibition mode. It can do a nifty slide-show of all of the images in the categories that are currently active. Switching every 5 second, to once an hour (defaults to 30 seconds. And is a separate setting from the normal background switching.)

    I love my pre3 this is the best phone I have ever owned hands down. better than iPhone, better than Droid X and definitly better than htc 3d evo…….The graphics are amazing and the os runs like a champ. My iPhone 5 looks prehistoric when matched up against my Pre3 and syncing to my touchpad is really an incredible experience than should be shared by me…….if only you could get inside of my dream lol lol lol lol ……had you going there for a second didn’t I? cmon admit I had you all going for it. hook, line, and sinker. lol lol lol

    Nice app, but I’ve never understood how these types of apps wind up under ‘productivity’.

    I really enjoy this app myself. To anyone considering it, spend the 1.99 to get it, the full blown version is awesome. It’s been two weeks and I haven’t seen a background repeat yet.

    So disappointed this app does not currently support my Pre3. Was so pleased with it on my Pre2 (& TouchPad!) & miss it now. Any plans I wonder?

    Seriously? Go to any iPAD wallpaper site (only because good luck finding a touchpad wallpaper site) and download to the touchpad’s wallpaper folder.Then go to settings – screen/lock and change your wallpaper. You don’t need an app to do this.

    Love this changing wallpaper app for the Touchpad. The lite (free) version was great.  I just upgraded to the full version.  I love flowers and now I can have a beautiful HD picture of lovely flowers every 5 minutes or other  of 12 photo options.
