In a Post-HPocalypse World, WebOS Internals Has Our Backs

By: , 10/14/2011 1:45 pm | 24 comments

Do you hear that low rumble? Off in the distance. That is HP, getting set to make an announcement of their grand plans for webOS. Build it… Sell it…or Kill it. Of course that last option is the most haunting, but realistically, it is a possibility, despite the fact that neither the Mayans nor Nostradamus mentioned anything. And that’s why we are blessed with our friends at webOS Internals.

In the unlikely event that webOS does meet its maker at the hands of Whitman and bunch, or to the power-hungry conglomerate that only is interested in patents and UI techniques, WebOS Internals has put together your emergency preparedness kit, which we fully recommend you go read, just after you’re done reading and commenting on this article.

There is some prep-work involved. There are things that need to be done now, or in the very near future to be sure you are ready. WebOS Internals has devised a clever step-by-step tutorial designed to keep your webOS device functioning for just as long as that slider keeps sliding. Using a combination of webOS Doctors, community forums, and existing cloud services, you can keep that bad boy rocking the best OS in the world long after it stops receiving corporate support.

Don’t get us wrong. We here at the Roundup do not feel as if webOS is in any imminent danger. We have not seen any new reports or signs that this is the proverbial “It”. Some of us have called Miss Cleo, and she assures us “Dares Nutin’ Goin’ On Mon!” We are simply following the advice that has been passed down from generation to generation – Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.

It’s also worth mentioning that should the implementation of this survival kit ever become necessary, webOSRoundup will keep on truckin’ through thick and thin. And of course, MobileRoundup will carry those stories and more and we invite you to participate, early and often. Always remember, one of the greatest strengths of the webOS community IS the community. We got ‘cho backs!

Unfortunately both Preware Homebrew Documentation & WOSQI Homebrew Guide are not available to those of us having no access to the paid apps catalog…..

  • Boydell Bown

No worries. Search the web, you will get all the info you need. Preware is the app you want first an formost, and it’s website gives you all the instructions for getting it on to your phone or touchpad.

Plus you can always ask questions in the forums here and precentral.

Where was that sign you talk of

    Miss Cleo…hahah!

  • Dutch

Of course, as a fan of the Maize and Blue, the Rod referenced in the sign above is no longer with Michigan. No omens for WebOS I hope.

Miss Cleo reference. That’s a classic, whatever happened to those commercials?
    “Call me now!” lol,

  • @jguns

Thank you guys! I’m on the verge of finally having my (refuse my self to mention those ones that harmed us, webOS fans, so much; aka sHi.P) Pre 3 and (again the unnamenable) 32GB Touchpad and everyone is saying webOS is dead. Dead or not, is WAY better OS than those much alive. I love that I’ll be using and squeezzing my webOS devices for as long as I take good care of them (and I will). Than you again to all webOS supporters. LIVE LONG WEBOS!!!

WebOS forver. I rather use an original Pixi than use IOS Android or any other platform. There are plenty of webOS phones out there to purchase if I ever need a replacement

II got my Sprint iPhone 4S today. This is it for this PalmPre and I.Wish you all well.Maybe someday Web OS will rise again. So, I’ve Two Touch Stones, a working sprint pre, and a lighter cord with a 3rd touch stone attached for dash mount… All works… Make anoffer to me on google plus (MichaelDCarney) or facebook. Bye Web OS community.PS this closes out well over a decade of using Palm devices, and I do thing the UI of WebOS beats them all. iPhone could use some WebOS UI. Sad day for my fondness of Palm and all itstood for

Buying my wife an iPhone 4S to replace her Pixi, not because I’ve given up but because she has and at least with iPhone I don’t have to be her tech support anymore (she figures most of it out on her own or she can call any of our grown kids who all have iPhones already). So today she tries to convince me to buy one too. Didn’t use these words to her, but the answer is “they’ll have to pry my Pre out of my cold, dead hands”. Thank you, webOS Internals!

    • intelligen

It’s great but sad  that webOS internals is preparing for the end.  These efforts will buy some time but it’s probably impossible for a platform to be sustained long term by grassroots efforts alone.  I’ve lived throught the death of 8 bit platforms in 90′s- commodore, atari, and it’s not fun.  Still hoping for a good buyer for webOS.  If HP is just selling the patents rather than an intact webOS platform then they should release webOS into public domain. (and not Android) At least in the worst case scenario if HP pulls the plug, at least the devices will end gracefully through webOS homebrew efforts.

  • Ben

The only problem I see is the fact that HP is not going to manufacture any more TP batteries, I don’t want to end up with a plug in TP when the battery dies.
