Easter Egg Spotted in Email App (webOS 3.0.4)

By: , 11/3/2011 4:47 pm | 18 comments

This isn’t the first Easter Egg we’ve seen in the webOS email app, and hopefully won’t be the last.

The last time an Easter Egg was found in the email app on webOS was back with webOS 2.0.0 on the Pre2.

This time, it’s the same graphic, but instead of the app raining cows, they become airborne when you double tap on the webOS Toaster.

To activate the easter egg, search for “supercowpowers” in the search box and then tap on the cow icon that appears in the toolbar. Note that this does require webOS 3.0.4 to work. You can watch a video of the Easter Egg in action below.

It’s the little things that count, and this certainly is one of those little things. This is the type of thing that makes us love webOS.

Special thanks to Tomomi Imura of webOS Developer Relations for the heads up.

Has everybody overlooked the fact that Zinio magazine app is now in the app catalog….Hello webosroundup! somebody must have been asleep at the whell since this was one of the most important apps that people were waiting on to make them decide on getting a touchpad.

If only there was a threaded email Easter egg

  • Abe

If you tap the toaster really fast the cows fly out by the truckload!!

I cant get the cows to work. just get the copy icon. tried double taping and tapping really fast. nothing..

  • Pete

    What search box?

  • William

It’s in the middle panel just under the “inbox” header and above the list of emails.  Stares you right in the face but is still kinda hard to see.

What I want to know is how the heck did anyone figure this out? Was a developer waiting patiently for someone to stumble upon it while they were sorting through their subscription to supercowpowers weekly emails? Did his patience grow thin and decide to let the cow out of the bag?

what else is hidden? Should we start randomly searching for hidden keywords like weboswillneverdie?

Well… Super cow powers is a hidden easter egg in Linux. As webOS is based on a Linux-Kernel (and therefore the team coding it is probably deeply familiar with Linux) it is reasonable to take a look at such things ;)

Tomomi Imura (@girlie_mac) had been talking about the Easter egg for a while and I, remembering the supercowpowers egg from 2.0, investigated the source code for the 3.0.4 email app, eventually stumbling upon the cow icon and toaster

i get the screen, but tapping, no matter how many times, renders only the copy bubble. no cows. what’s the trick?

Did you try double tapping (as in, fast succession of two taps)
