Touchpads and TigerDirect Make Some Sweet, Sweet Bundles

By: , 11/3/2011 5:30 pm | 23 comments

It’s almost like the words “Did you miss your final chance at a TouchPad?” should be copied and pasted into at least one article per week for the past few weeks.

Now the folks over at TigerDirect have a bundle for you -

  • HP 32 GB Touchpad
  • Belkin 10.1″ Tablet Case
  • Belkin FlipBlade Tablet Stand
  • Creative Labs D80 Bluetooth Speakers
  • 16GB USB Flash Drive

All for the low, low price of $279.  The bundles go on sale on TigerDirect’s website, but apparently only through this link at 2:30pm EST, which means they’ll be sold out at 2:31 EST, so don’t forget to synchronize your watches.  This seems like a pretty sweet deal. Why one would need a Bluetooth Speaker and a Flash drive for a device with Beats Audio and not USB port is beyond us, but who are we to argue?

flattr this!

Thanks for the heads up.  The Source link worked.  I fixed the article link.

    So, my
thought here is ‘Not to pick on anyone or site(S)’ –

    But those folks that HONESTLY
subscribed to Tiger.com in the event that they would possibly have a chance to
FINALLY get a Touchpad; have been reduced or removed all together due to this being
posted to the general public. Not cool guys :-(

    Just
    saying… Not cool!

Normally I’d agree, but this thing is on Slickdeals as well. Once it gets there, it’s over for the general public. If the folks at Tiger Direct wanted to be fair, they would do what Newegg did, and contact people in the order that they signed up for email notifications, until the inventory is gone.

They couldn’t have expected people to keep the deal to themselves. Their servers will probably crash before the deal goes live, from everyone refreshing the page.

Too late, moved on to iPhone 4s a few days ago. Last straw for me was trying to use google maps & screen said click here to get latest map app. That same day I stopped into apple store on whim and they had sprint 16gb avail. That and crackly/unclear phone calls convinced me it was time to shelve my orig pre. Hope those that want TP get one. Good luck

the Creative Labs BT speakers are not needed with the TouchPad, but they work great with webOS devices.  I use it at work for music from my phone (Verizon Prē3) and it has about a 40 foot range that I can walk before it cuts out.  Prē2 worked just as well. If I remember right, was about $80 on it’s own, so is a heck of a good bundle.

I read the comment above that said that Google maps has been disabled and is forcing us to download HP’s crap maps so I checked it out.  Not only is it true, but they are blocking access to Google maps website as well. Furthermore, when I try to use BFG maps, it keeps rebooting my phone.  HP has pissed me off for the last time.  I don’t care if they bring back webos hardware or not, they have alienated me for good.  As soon as I can find a phone I like, preferably with ICS, this phone is done.  FU HP!  This is blatant anticompetitive practices and I am going to research how to file a complaint with the FTC and the justice Dept.

BFG maps still works fine for me on my overclocked heavily patched original palm pre.

      • Michelhb

Try going to Street View and see if it works. Could be unrelated.

I don’t think they are intentionally blocking maps.google.com. In the past whenever you typed that url into the browser it would launch the maps app. It made sense because the maps app was using google maps and was a much better/optimized experience. I think they just forgot about that behavior. To be consistent they need to use the bing maps url as the trigger to open the map app now.

Try this URL for google maps in browser:
    http://maps.google.com/maps/mm

The double mm is important. No real substitute to the google maps app but better than only having bing.

I’m not sure what the big deal is. Speaking as a Pre- user, Bing seems to load up and run the same/better than bloody Googlemaps (which has been buggy and uncooperative of late!). As long as it works reasonably well when I need it most, I couldn’t give a monkey’s who’s maps I’m using.

Exactly my experience. The google maps app on my Pre- was so slow I rarely used it. I still rarely use a map app, but I’ve easily doubled my usage of the map app since it switched to Bing. Does it do everything google maps did? Probably not. But it does everything I need more quickly and therefore I am more satisfied.

I agree with you about bing speed. However Bing does not offer public transit information in my city and google maps does. Granted i’ve only taken the bus twice in a year and a half, but it was useful.

the big deal ist bing traffic data and yellow page service doesn’t work in all countries and seems not to be as reliable in those it is available

  • Chillipesto

Well, there was no Travel data available here in UK, therefore no loss to me. Also considering how lousy Google Map was at running at all on my Pre-, I wouldn’t miss it if was!! All my public transport infor comes from standard web usage. Just bookmark the right sites and Hey Presto!

  • GTF696

NOOOO! I had it. It said product in your card. I went to pay and the site timed out. Then BOOM it was gone :(

  • Pedroeca

Bundle sold out by 2:33pm… That was easy… Was trying to buy a bundle as a gift since I have of my own; got message that was added to my cart but upon checkout quantity on cart refreshed to 0. Tried again and screen came back with sold out message. I guess will have to fetch one on ebay.

    • Scobb00

Yep – had exact same experience.  Thought I got one, but it didn’t show up.  Sigh.

  • Dcieslak

Same experience here….”added to my cart, but cart was empty”.  Psych!!

  • Dmatt23ingly

were you logged in to your account?  If not it would not show up in your cart!
