It’s undeniable that some of us rely on Facebook more than others. While the official facebook app on webOS is good at what it does, it’s missing something crucial for many: Facebook chat. The team over at Palm updates the app frequently so we’d expect to see this feature added in the future. In addition (as you will read later), webOS already has native support for Facebook chat. In the meantime, however, read on for a guide on different methods for connecting to Facebook chat on webOS.

Yesterday I watched BBC’s remake of Sherlock Holmes. The show puts a modern twist on the classic stories. One of these twists is the Sherlock Holmes character’s fascination with text messaging. In one scene, Mr.Holmes texts a journalist and the message is shown with a close-up of a Palm Pre. The text messaging theme certainly seemed out of place in the episode which adapted Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet, but at least the Pre got some screen time out of it.
It is worth noting that we see a original Pre in what is presumably a product placement. This is because O2 is the exclusive provider of webOS devices in the UK, but they currently sell plus versions. However, this one can probably be chalked up to filming that occurred before O2 upgraded to plus devices.
And oh, I loved the show, despite the awkward cell phone/text messaging theme. I wish it wasn’t so hard to watch BBC programming in the United States…
Readers of webOSroundup are surely familiar with Tim Stiffler-Dean of Palm Pre Challenge fame (and regular contributor here on WOR). Tim is more intimate with his phone than most of us and he clearly cares about his phone. On his blog, he posted his opinion on a recent theme of discussion in the webOSverse: new hardware.
Everyone should click through to his post. To summarize, Tim suggests people “shut-up” about requesting new hardware and instead focus on bettering our community. He explains such comments encourage “disorder and dissent,” which are attitudes that don’t move webOS forward. This negative mindset affects users on multiple fronts, such as developer interest and media attention. Arno Arni’s fan-made commercial is the perfect example of a productive contribution to the webOS community (embedded after the break). However, please don’t take this summary in exchange for reading Tim’s insightful post. Read the rest of this entry »

Please, don’t ask me why I did this.
I’ve always found it nifty that Govnah by webOS Internals can report cpu temperatures. Even though I knows it’s damaging my phone, I sometimes keep my Pre in my pocket just to see how hot it can get. However, when I saw a can of compressed air today I tried to see how cold I could get my phone and I may have set a record.
In the video after the break, watch me bombarded my Pre with blasts of coldness.

HP’s giddiness seems to be a good indication that a webOS tablet is coming soon, but who knows if they can deliver. I’ll be the first to admit I am skeptical of tablet computing. At this point, I just don’t see what purpose they serve. I’m pragmatist and tablets just don’t seem practical.
However, when a device the seems to serve no purpose catches my eye, something must be up. No, I am not talking about the iPad; I am talking about the webOS tablet.
After the break is youtube user brentjdowney’s 3d mock up. While chances are an actual webOS tablet like this would be released, I think he has the right idea. If HP/Palm wants to sell a tablet to someone who doesn’t understand what purpose tablets serve, they should do the following:
